For me the Barbarian class seems to be focused on the berserker archetype. In order to give it a more Celtic feel without rewriting the whole class I’m suggesting the following changes:
1. Replace “Rage” ability with Salmon Leap Attack.
Salmon Leap Attack – A Celtic Warrior who makes a successful jump check (DC = opponents Armour Class) can leap over an opponents defences gaining a +2 attack bonus on subsequent attacks that round and catching the opponent flat-footed (i.e. the opponent loses any Armour Class bonus due to Dexterity). The opponent also loses any benefit gained by carrying a shield. This is a move action.
Salmon Leap Attack may be used once per day at 1st level, twice per day at 4th level, and an additional once per day per additional 4 levels thereafter (i.e. 8th, 12th, 16th, 20th).
Greater Rage is replaced by Greater Salmon Leap Attack where the attack bonus increases to +4 and Mighty Rage is replaced by Greater Salmon Leap Attack where the attack bonus increases to +8.
2. Replace “Damage Resistance” with Salmon Leap Defence.
Salmon Leap Defence - A Celtic Warrior who makes a successful jump check (DC = opponents Attack Roll) can leap into the air to avoid an incoming attack. The Salmon Leap Defence is called after a successful attack roll has been made but before damage is rolled. A Salmon Leap Defence against a melee attack does draw an Attack of Opportunity. This is a move action.
Salmon Leap Defence may be used once per day at 7th level, twice per day at 10th level, and an additional once per day per additional 3 levels thereafter (i.e. 13th, 16th, 19th).
Finally, Tireless Rage is replaced by Tireless Salmon Leap where Salmon Leap Attack and Salmon Leap Defence become Free Actions (although still limited to once per round).
So what do people think? Is the above a balanced replacement for the abilities lost?
