Changing Weapon Metallurgic Properites

Is there a spell similar to Align Weapon that allows the caster to temporarily change the metallurgic properties of a weapon (silver, cold iron, etc)? If so, please note the source it is listed in.

Thanks.

None that I'm aware of.

There's a weapon enhancement in either City of the Spider Queen or the Underdark Forgotten Realms book called "metalline," which allows a weapon so enhanced to change which material it is as far as DR is concerned, however.

The Book of Exalted Deeds has the spells silvered claws (Drd1, Rgr1), silvered weapon (Pal1, Rgr2) and touch of adamantine (Clr6, Drd6, Sor/Wiz5) which pretty much do what you would expect. There is no spell to turn a weapon into a cold iron equivalent.

It is in Underdark, thanks. My players are all 5th level or lower so that is pretty much out of reach for now.

I suppose I could allow them to research a spell to do this. Just wanted to check and see if there already was one.

That's what I was looking for. Thank you.

It's not a spell, but in the DMG 3.5, there is a wondrous item called silversheen. Turns a weapon into alchemical silver for an hour.

why use alchemical silver?
it's cheaper to make the whole item out of silver (50 silver coins = 1 lb.)

If I remeber my high school geology correctly silver is fairly pliable. Thus, the resulting weapon wouldn't be very effective.

More pliable than iron/steel, but it's still hard enough for weapons. It just wears out/looses its edge faster. Tools used to be made out of copper and bronze. I've used lead sledge hammers, and they hold up for years.
A silver hammer will crack ribs as good as a steel one.
