Changing your familiar with Polymorph Other.

A wizard in my campaign is going to try and transform her familiar with polymorph other. He has a mouse familiar, and wants to transform it into a bat.

I cannot really find anything in the rules that not allow this. Of course polymorph other has some drawbacks. (such as the will save in a stressful situation).

Does anyone have any insight that may help me rule on this? It's a new one for me

I don't see any reason to not allow this.

If he was turing it into a tiger there may be some balance issues but I think T&B got rid of the 'stressfull situations' part.

Also you can choose your familiar so changing its form to something similarly sized isn't too bad.

But according the the rules as written the bat/mouse would not have the echo location/blindsight ability. Personally I implement a house rule that only "magical abilites" are not granded and that natural real life abilities for a real life creature are granted. Snakes would have poison and bas would "see" in the dark (so would some snakes - some see infrared.

the will save was errata'ed out.

one size bigger, nothing over 15 hd.

just remeber, the owner gets no bat advantages, cause it is still a "mouse" for type
