Chaos Scar 'Slavers Stone', a sandbox?

Robert J. Schwalb has some advice for sandbox like adventures. He wrote one for the Chaos Scar called The Slaver's Stone (sorry it's behind the paywal).

Here he tackles the five minute day.
One way I tackled this issue was through time. I wanted to let the player take as many extended rests as they like, but I also wanted there to be consequences for doing. This was pretty easy to do since all I had to do was lay out briefly how the adventure changes after each extended rest. Altering encounter composition, story material, and so on all seem to have worked. To compensate for the heightened pace, I gave the PCs a few companion characters to help them along the way. So long as the PCs don’t bed down for a nap, the companions stick around. The PCs delay, and thus regain expended resources, the companions move along.

I haven't read through the adventure yet but the linked review makes me even more intrigued.
