Character Concepts: Gish (F/MU) and Teleporter Mage

Hrm. Except for the expression on the one on the right--which is, agreed, more than a little ridiculously exaggerated--I rather like the pic.

It's a mix at my utter amusement of his constantly changing facial hair along with the WAND THAT SHOOTS RAINBOWS in that last picture.

Plus, where the hell is his shield, and why is the picture of a human when it's supposed to be an eladrin? :|

He can't use an implement with his Wizard powers, unless he takes Spiral Tower, or drops his shield; his one remaining Fighter at-will is Tide of Iron, so take a guess what he does regarding a shield.

He can't take Paragon multi-classing and also Spiral Tower.

He can't make use of Spiral Tower with a Bastard Sword.

The Spiral Tower sentence should simply be erased. It is obvious that this is a error since he doesn't mention it again and doesn't get any advantages and powers from it.

He obviously agree with you about the shield/wand problem since he specifically mentions the dancing sword so that he don't have to sheathe the sword to use his wand.

Overall I really like the Article and I hope that these characters will be included in the (hopefully) upcoming Character Generator so that you can take on of these into your session without any preparations.

P.S.: I think the pictures are great even though the fighter/mage is obviously a human not eladrin :P

What'd he get wrong?
Plus: The teleporting mage cannot enter the Archmage epic destiny - the multiclass feats only give you access to the paragon paths, whereas Archmage explicitly demands 21st-level wizard. :erm:
Gishgusting, isn't it?

I bet you gish you never brought it up.
I...WAND THAT SHOOTS RAINBOWS in that last picture.
Of course, that's pretty much what prismatic beams does! And I like the artwork, it's pretty good, but the first picture, I have to say, is much better.

Cheers, LT.

It's the same artist that made the Gythyanki/Gitzerai, right? Fitting that he does all the Gish... ;)
The first picture is indeed better... especially the woman in the middle. ;)

I am not overly impressed, though on the other hand, I understood that the Gish fighter mage was possible in 4E beforehand...

I'd like to see some Rogue/Wizard multiclass... (Would that be the "Spellthief" archetype?)

I recognized the second picture (of the fighter-mage) from somewhere, but I can't remember where; it's reused art, and so that explains why it doesn't match up with the character concept. I'd imagine that the first picture is probably reused too.

As for how the fighter-mage guy wields all his stuff, I'm curious, too. From the initial 'Class' entry:

"Germain’s Fighter Weapon Talent will be used with one-handed weapons, so he can keep a wand in his other hand."

So the author intended, at least initially, for Germain to have a sword in one hand and a wand in the other. I was confused when he went straight for Tide of Iron, which made me imagine the guy with a sword in one hand, a shield strapped to the other arm, and the hand with the shield holding the wand . . . but that doesn't seem right. So he either needs to sheathe his sword (but he doesn't have Quick Draw :() or there's going to be a lot of minor actions being spent to get all Germain's powers firing off at the right times.

AARRRRGGGHHH!!!

Fighter-mage!! FIGHTER-MAGE!!!

IF it's a githyanki with combined martial and arcane abilities, then it's a gish. Otherwise, NO!!!:rant::rant:

*pant, pant, pant*

Mouseferatu I share your rage...start the crusade and let us burn the heretics!
Fighter-mages unite!

1. I heartily agree with Ari's notions on "gish".

2. The art is amazing.

3. The second character has no business being an eladrin. The pictured character (a human) is better than an eladrin, because Wizard of the Spiral Tower isn't needed for this build (paragon multiclassing gives better balance). Or a half-elf, which would still be close to the pictured character.

The second character culd've been a human fighter, with his extra feat used for Arcane Initiate, and the at-will powers Cleave, Sure Strike and Reaping Strike.

4. Choosing Tide of Iron for a shieldless character is a disappointing oversight.
