Character concepts/PrClasses that just GRAB you!

Ninjas!

Ninjas are bad, ninjas are cool. Ninjas make all the other fighter-rogues drool.

I've never played an oriental setting, so alas, I have never played a ninja. (sigh)

Otherwise, the gunmage (stolen from FFX-2). Not the class as presented in the game, mind you. Just the name. The idea of a D&D "arcane gunslinger" is too cool. So cool I have to go make one for our next campaign.

Cool Idea?

Right now I have my head wrapped around a Halfling Psionic Rogue. I like the idea of a Rogue being able to buff himself with mental abilities...anyone tried this yet?

Trigger Mage from Arcanis is what you're looking for from the sounds of it. Player's Guide to Arcanis has it.

One look at the powers of a Shaper and I was completely sold.

The Candle Caster from Tome of Magic - yeah, it's not all that mighty, but it's neat. I tend to like more lyrical, ethereal fantasy than sword & sorcery, and the Candle Caster appeals to me on that level.

Ow! That was my first love too! :) I even wrote down a CC character when I was only DMing, hoping to use it the first time I had the chance to be a player, but when it happened they needed a cleric... :p

It looks like the CC was completely unpopular at the end... maybe kind of underpowered, and it probably won't even have a 3.5 version. But the idea was very flavorful, and a good example about how a PrCl should be IMO.

currently: a stormsinger (from frostburn) is a must-have. sadly, I probably end up just DMing thru the winter, with just an occasional session of those games I usually attend to.

previous favorites:
a duelist - there is just something in that cocky character type with a girly sword.
dervish/bard. I loved my little harem-trained maniac.
whatever I play, I always return to thieves and rangers. I know, it's sad.

The Shifter PrC (Masters of the Wild) was the class I really wanted to try - and I did, and it was fun. I always loved Odo (Startrek Deep Space Nine), and the Shifter could at least grant all the cool visual powers .)

I like the look of the Stormlord of Talos from the Complete Divine. Really want to play one... there's just something about it that really works for me. Riding on storms hurling electrical javelins at stuff! Yay! :D

Mustrum_Ridcully - Another vote for the Shifter. I'm envious, never had a chance to try one.

And based on a concept someone came up with in the rogues gallery - a human hunter. Some kind of goblinish thing - hobgoblin seems best to me. They're a tribal type, trained from birth to hunt and slay humans. Now exiled into the big wide world. Think it could be a lot of fun to play out their interactions with 'the prey'. I'll do it one day!

A Monk with the Vow of Poverty.

A Fighter specialized in staff geared towards Kensai.

A Savage Species vrock (updated to 3.5) who sees power on the Material plane as a way out from under the talon of the Abyssal lords, and is willing to cooperate with mortals to that end.

A primitive, noble barbarian that worships a lion-god, with Vow of Poverty and a wagonload of exalted feats.

A LG, half-Maztican bounty hunter cleric of Hoar (FR god of Vengeance) with single levels in urban ranger and regular ranger. Aiming avenge the wrongs done to the Maztican people, to become a Chosen, and wrest his deity from LN to LG through the sheer strength of his faith in greater justice.

A baseborn necromancer (with 1st level as rogue?) who dreams of using his adventuring riches to buy his way into the nobility and ruin the aristocratic family in whose house he grew up as a servant and whipping boy.

A paladin originating in a Norse culture, with a shaggy ox or rothe as his mount, with chainmail and axe instead of full plate and longsword.

A half-fey hexblade, played as a bitter, exiled sidhe-wannabe.

Too many characters, dammit. I'll never get to play a third of these guys, even assuming I have no more ideas from here on in...

Something I cooked up for my homebrew setting, inspired by the Wayfarer in Tome & Blood:

The Wayfarer Cirqueliste. Basically, the Wayfarer's Guild started off as an acting troupe that used lots of acrobatics, supplemented by unique short-range teleportation spells. When the world's teleportation magic got screwed up, they were the first ones to figure out a solution, and so in addition to being a danged fun group to watch perform, they also cornered the market on teleportation for hire.

A Wayfarer Cirqueliste would be like a thief-acrobat taken to the next level. You can teleport around the battlefield, teleport to sneak attack people, teleport to dodge attacks, and eventually teleport your foes into unpleasant situations.

So . . . "my real name is Kurt Wagner, but in the circus I was known as 'The Amazing Nightcrawler.'"
