character creation???

First Post
I've played D&D for quite some time now. I was just wondering how other gaming systems do character creation. I thought you use a point buy system in gurps. I just thought it would be interesting to see the difference......

I am using that for my next campaign. Right now I run a 35 point game (to test the upper limit) and I play in a 32 point game. I am looking forward to the 25 point game, for a change. :D

We roll the dice. Take what you get. Some people ar ebetter then others, but that's fair since some people play better then others.

I run a 32 point buy game. Everybody is happy. i really wanted to run a 28 point game but my players did not like that idea. Oh well.

Felix reads Dr. Zoom and Dagger75's posts and begins drooling.

Dr. Zoom, be careful what you wish for, because I'VE BEEN THERE!:D

I strongly suggest point buying. It's not fun when one character uber-dominates the group. It's also not fun is everything is too easy for you, and the DM doesn't dare make things tougher for fear of killing off everything else. And the DM shouldn't sic' the Terminator (tm) on you unless they're really angry at you, but they may if your stats are just too high.

(The Terminator: a monster, often home brewed, designed to defeat a character or party. If the character in question is a mage with Int 25 and save DCs that never fail, then the creatures has SR 50, incredible saving throws, and immunity to all those "save-or-sit-in-the-corner" spells. Or if the character is a monk, then it has DR x/+5, where x is a number much bigger than the monk can dish out per blow. Etc.)

The amount of points is up to you. I noticed that NPCs in adventures tend to have around 30 points, rather than 25, so I'm going to give all of my PCs a +1 boost to all of their stats.

See, I've never had this happen. In one game I have the wrost stats of the group. In fact, the Wizard has ever stat higher then mine except for charisma (and I'm a Ranger). Things are just as difficult for him as for me. I'm sure there are some instances where one guy has no stat lower then a 16, and another has no higher then a 14, but this rarely seems to happen.

Also, sometimes it's fun to play someone who is not so good at everything. Bad stats can be fun.

I use point buy in my game but its uses what some people think is alot of points 60 point and using the skale out of the Dmg I also use it for NPC to.
