Character Design: The 6 million gp man!

I've got a player who wants to build a character that believes in the philosophy of Law. Specifically, we are talking about hero-worshipping of Inevitables and a desire to emulate them.
This player would like to have, well.. magic/mechanic/techno.. items? Things like implants and grafts.

They don't mind giving up magic items for them, so it could just be a fluff thing but I know there are sources out there that make some attempt at this kind of style. What are some ways that a D&D character could emulate.. what is for all intents and purposes, a cyborg? It is a standard D&D campaign, with your typical generic fantasy setting but I'm a nice DM and I like it when my players think outside the box when it comes to character design so I'm willing to look into it.

Anyone have ideas?

Magic of Eberron has grafts which may be what you're after. They're not especially appealing IMO because they're expensive and they cost permanent hit points (& sometimes other stuff as well) to attach.

I thought this thread would be about taking a low-level character and giving him 6,000,000 gp worth of gear, to see if he could keep up with 20th-level adventurers.

For your idea, you could just let him pick his items, and then say they are integrated into his body. He can't lose them or have them stolen, but he also can't sell them or easily upgrade them. If he was an artificer (from Eberron), he could actually have a fair number of magic items as part of his character class, more so than a normal PC.

Or he could be a warforged.

From the Ptolus book:

Jevicca’s Arm
Magic animates this red, solid
glass arm and provides Jevicca
with all sorts of enhancements
and combat capabilities. These
include a +2 bonus to Strength,
+4 bonus to Constitution, and
+2 bonus to Dexterity, plus the
following bonus feats: Deflect
Arrows, Improved Grapple,
Improved Unarmed Strike, and
Stunning Fist.
Strong transmutation; CL 15th.

Might be a bit much.

One of the Half-golem templates?

I don't really like using them much as a player, though. Partly 'cause the one that I'd most want to play hasn't been written that I know of ... mmm mithral ... where was I?

Right, Half-golem template. As a player, you loose an awful lot of handy stuff ... and run the risk of insanity/becoming a construct. That said, for certain character-types or concepts, it would fit and be useful.

Etherscope's cybernaughtics system is quite nice, allowing you to buy attachments with feats and talents. There is a fair range of cybernaughtics listed, but nothing that rivals Shadowrun's list. I'm planning on using a modified version of the system in an upcoming D&D campaign, but I can't think of any reason you couldn't drop it in its entirety into D&D.

In addition to the half golem template, have a look at the half machine template... It might be other places, too, but I remember seeing it in a Dungeon Magazine adventure I ran once. To put it into PC hands, you might consider a transformational prestige class modelled on the Dragon Disciple.

There was an article in Dragon Magazine 351 (January 2007) that was called "The Clockwork Disciple" by Stephanie Vergamini which appears to be what you are looking for. It includes a feat called Technomagical Implant that lets you add all sorts of cyborg-like implants.

Also, there was a race of planetouched known as Mechanatrix in the Fiend Folio that might be helpful. They are descended from the clockwork creatures of Mechanus and parts of their bodies are mechanical. A picture can be found here. Second guy from the left.

There's also the Renegade Mastermaker PrC from the Magic of Eberron book. Essentially you start out as humanoid and end up a living construct (like the warforged). It'd have to be tweaked for settings other than Eberron however since some of the features rely on things only in the ECS, such as warforged components and repair spells.
