Character Level

I was reading through the Book of Exalted deeds the other night and my mind began to wander the corridors of combination.

And then it became a general question which encompassed many things.

For example: Vow of Poverty abilities gained are based on Character Level. Is a 6th level character who is also a Saint (+2 LA) counted as Character Level 6 or 8?

Exalted Wildshape requires a Wild Shape ability of 8th level minimum. Does a Master of Many Forms (Complete Adventurer) confer its levels to Druid levels for this calculation?

Any help/enlightenment will be appreciated.

Since VoP gives you powers in exchange for not having equipment, counting LA for it is probably a good idea, considering the equipment it replaces is also (theoretically) based on class levels + racial HD + LA.

Well, normally character level is w/o level adjustment. This is also what your wealth will be based on, not character level + LA.
I think racial HD figure into the character level, tho.

Whether this is fair or not is another question, of course.
I also think that ECL would be better to base all these things on.

So what you guys are saying is that RAW doesn't count the LA??
