Character names from popular music

Actually, kiddies, The band Kyuss got their name from "The Sons of Kyuss"- powerful undead who guard the city of Lankhmar on Nehwon, the creation of the great Fritz Lieber in his Fafhrd and Grey Mouser stories. For those of us old enough to remember, the Nehwhon mythos was presented in the very first (1st Ed) Deities & Demigods.

I just got done rereading through that the other day! I was looking for ideas to make distinctive new deities for a setting I've been working on.

I wonder why they never bothered to update the Nehwhon mythos in the later god books - copyright issues, or just lack of player interest....

No, but only I would replace "kissing my cheek as she kneels by my side" with "smoke from her gun that she lays by my side," changing what she's doing to a last moment of mercy for the psychopathic stalker that she had no choice but to eliminate. :D

And did you know his name really is Meat Loaf? First name: Meat, Last Name: Loaf. He had it legally changed. Weird - but not a symbol, so okay, I guess. ;)

Anything's better than some stupid symbol. And I never liked Prince or whatever he goes under these days...

I'd love to pull another male character and call him "Falco".... (I wonder if any of my buddies would get that one.... ;) )

Ooh! Rock me Amadeus! :D

Years ago, a friend of mine gave a shot at role-playing. He was just starting, and was playing a noble priest from the 2e Complete Priest's HB. He had a hard time coming up with a name. He was a big fan of Mannheim Steamroller, so I suggested Brother Mannheim. He loved it. :)

Back in my younger days, we had an in-house band in the local tavern. The band was called Arrowsmithe. (insert groans here)

Plus, who can forget Elfin John from Castle Greyhawk? ;)

Another way that music came into play in my old games was that we introduced spellsinging into the campaign. Songs would produce magical effects. One player sang "Fly Like An Eagle", and suddenly our paladin grew wings.

Ah, good times.

Sounds like a GnR tribute band called Appetite For Destruction....

I can't think right offhand about the tribute band for Poison's name.....

one guy told me that he used to play it where bards had to sing a song to cast a spell, and you could only use one particular song once. ;)

"Unskinny Bop"?
"Fallen Angel"?
"Ride the Wind"?
Those would be the most obvious, but I'd probably go with "Swampjuice" or "Uncle Jack", if it were my band.
