Character's interaction with Authority\Nobility question

I know this is depends on what kind of story you want to tell but lets say we are just going for averages.

1st lvl characters - Village Leader
2nd -5th - Baron or Town Mayor
6th -11th - King/Queen
12th - 15th - Emperor
16th - Outer Planes Rulers

Just looking for input. Thanks.

So, what exactly is the question?

If you're asking what level you can expect to have PCs interact with different level of leaders, well, it depends on your campaign and what the PCs are doing. For instance, if they rescue the king's daughter that's been kidnapped, then you'd probably bump up your "meet the nobles" timeframe. On the other hand, the same thing might happen if your PCs are responsible for kidnapping the king's daughter though ;)

If you're looking for what point the various leaders might start making requests of the PCs, then that looks about right with some minor tweaking depending on the power level of the leaders and populace. There probably really isn't that big of a difference between the town mayors and village leaders though, unless you're refering to a large population center with the mayor

Thanks for the input. I know that my wording could use some work my mind is not working right because of this crazy south beach diet. I guess what I'm asking is if the princess/prince were capyured when would the King summon you to the throne room to ask for help. I doubt you would be asked this at 3rd lvl but maybe the mayor would ask to help find his son. Thanks.

It has nothign to do with level. It has everything to do with reputation. A group of fifth level characters who save the city from an orc raiders might be apporached by the kings men, but a group that basically keeps their activities quiet, even though they are of higher level, would not becasue the King would not of heard of them.

Reputation makes sense. I was just thinking that if your second lvl group clumsily manages to stop the orc horde and the King asks you to stop the Evil Wizard that on the edge of his kingdom hopefully there are alot of level gaining obstacles before you get there. Thanks.

Part of it also depends on what the characters are.

What if they're all nobels from one of the various handbooks? What if they're bards, clerics or council wizards?

Depending on your campaign and style, players can meet various tiers of nobility at anytime.

For example, in a low powered campaign where everyone is a warrior, a fighter, even a 2nd-3rd level one, is going to come to someone's attention as a man who can get things done. Even more fearsome though would be his wizard comrade, a dark caster who with a wave of his hand can cause stout warriors to sleep!
