D&D 5E Check Out Some (Minor) Monster Reveals From Bigby Presents: Glory of the Giants!

Six of of the book's monster's names are revealed!

Thanks to miniatures company WizKids, some upcoming miniatures reveal some of the monsters in this Spring's official D&D adventure.

Some of the creatures included in the book (which naturally have a 'giant' theme) are:
  • Stone Giant of Evil Earth
  • Fire Hellion
  • Goliath Chief
  • Frostmourn
  • Giant Lynx
  • Death Giant Necromancer
There's not much more info than that, although the Death Giant Necromancer gets a description --

This Huge miniature features a chilling expression reminiscent of the grave. The souls flitting about this wizard of the undead will be sure to inspire terror for all that look upon its fell visage.

The grave is calling… how will you answer?

I can see us getting various creature stat blocks for beasts and monstrosities that the giants might have had as pets or mounts. Like how Frost Giants have Mammoths as mounts. So maybe we will get more Giant beasts, or maybe even something above the Giant classification, maybe something like Dire/Monstrous. Imagine a huge size category Wolf or Deer for example for example.

Then you have the War Beasts. Behir and Rocs in 5e were said to have been made by the giants to fight the dragons during their massive war in the Forgotten Realms. Maybe we could get different versions of these monstrosities, stat blocks for older war bred versions that were more powerful then there more modern counter parts. Maybe there are other monstrosities connected to or created by the giants.

Maybe we will also get more elementally attuned giants, maybe acting as a more powerful variant of standard giants.

There are a lot of possibilities.

So the Giant Lynx is medium in keeping with being bigger than a regular lynx but smaller than a lion or tiger.
Looking into it, the Giant Lynx seems to have a history as a mount in D&D. Wonder if it will have a feature to allow Medium creatures like Wood Elves to continue doing so.

Getting a hang of this!

One of the few promo images released so far has a giant sky serpent thing in the background, so that may tie in with the behir and roc idea!

From the 1e MM:

"The lair of a band of wood elves is usually (70%) guarded by 2-8 giant owls (80%) or by 1-6 giant lynx (20%)."

They are size Medium in 1e and speak their own language.

Oh, the original Hidden Shrine was horribly sexist by modern standards, with suggestions of sexual assault. The nymph was naked, and the PCs could control her by steeling her clothes. You could earn points on the scorecard by doing that.
Not condoning anything...but wasn't there something in slavic lore about controlling a swan /nymph girl by stealing her shawl?

Finally, some real, juicy info on the book!

It's interesting that Diancastra is involved - she's a giant demigoddess, not the typical bickering wizards we've usually had hosting the monster books!

70+ giants, variants, and giant creatures looks great!
