This full-colour map depicts the great fortress-city of Middenheim, built upon the top of the mighty Fauschlag, a mountain plateau that legends proclaim was formed through the actions of the god Ulric himself. This high resolution map is perfectly suited for framing or use in your WFRP gaming sessions! It is indispensable to groups anticipating a fun packed week of activity and distraction at Middenheim’s world famous Carnival!

The map of Middenheim lists the locations of the most important venues in the city, from the High Temple of Ulric where the eternal fire burns, to the saturated and stinking sawdust floor of the Drowned Rat tavern. Navigating the city has never been easier, with each of Middenheim’s districts clearly delineated and buildings depicted in isometric detail.

I prefer the older map with its additional detail like alleyways, yards, and vegetation. The proportions of the buildings and streets in the new one seem to add a lot of open space and be more of an impression of the city.

Its also odd with all the additional blank space around the city in the new map that they still need to cover a corner of it with the district key. If you shifted the image across by a centimeter or so, it would avoid that.

The addition of levels within the city is cool though. I wonder if they do anything of interest with that.
Like both maps but I wish that the new map would have incorporated some of how the older map you linked shows.

I’ve never understood that. Its not as if the old map is used as an actual reference for streets or exact positions. It’s all just generalization. WFRP is and has always been full of unreliable narration. It’s part of the charm.

We have used it to trace out getaway routes and ambushes based on street positions. We also found it a good representation of the size and number of buildings in any district.

Okay, I mean I don’t know of any medieval city in the word that’s made up of lots of individual free standing detached buildings like the second edition map. it certainly doesn’t match the artwork that exists for WFRP and It was a particular style of fairly old fashioned RPG maps that don’t make real world sense. But sure if you want to use it as an accurate small scale battlemap for the city then if it works for you.

I prefer to assume they’re both artistic impressions and roll with it.

I never said I use it as an accurate small scale battle map. I also agree that maps have a level of artistic impression, including both of these. However, the older map provided more useful information for us as well, as said, such as location of alleyways, proportionate size and number of buildings etc. All of which we have used in our games.
