Orcish Amulet of Ironguard
When worn by a creature of the orc subtype this amulet grants them the ability to affect themselves with the ironguard spell up to five times each day.
CL 14th; Craft Wondrous Item, ironguard; Price ?; Cost to create ?

I know to make an item that does this which is usable by creatures of any type would cost 176,400 gp to buy and 88,200 gp, 7,056 xp to create.

My question is, how much of a discount should I give this item since it works only when worn by a creature of the orc subtype (orcs, orogs, half-orcs, etc).

Thanks in advance,
-Justin

D&D items get more expensive if they can only be used by a certain group of people since that's actually an advantage, not a disadvantage.

As written, they get cheaper when they can only be used by those who meet certain criteria, but I agree with you. Restricted items should be costlier.

They get cheaper? In 3.0 there was a text passage in DMG that said it should cost more IIRC...

Yup. IDHMBIFOM, but there's a sidebar on item creation which provides examples on price dropping (10%, 30%, etc.) for items restricted to those with certain skill ranks, classes, etc.

IIRC, the 3.0 DMG actually said prices should drop too.

So one of us has a faulty memory. Care to check and confirm?

Considering how the last few times went out when I did that... ;)

Might as well be that I have the idea that prices should increase from some discussion here.

I should really get my core books from the dungeon... ehem, cellar.

NPC, a 14th level orog warlock. it's the cohort of an orog bbn2/ftr9/orc warlord 5.
He mainly sneaks around invisible most of the time. he has both eldritch spear and eldritch glaive. he's almost never unarmed. I like him, if his boss is killed I'll make sure he can get away and bug the PC's after 5-10 levels go by.

btw, he made the ironguard amulet himself, which is why it only works on orcs. this item will end up on a PC, my brothers half-orc frenzied berserker.

PS no bashing the FB in my thread, I'll ask a moderator to delete this if people start dissing my bro's character. he put hours into picking out what he wanted to be.

thanks again,
-Justin
