A pox on Origins!

Does anyone think that a Gameday could be a great *alternative* to one of the big cons? I do, but it's not like I'm ever accurate about these things...

Please, won't you help send a gamer (Pbartender) to camp.....uh, I mean, a Gameday? Pleeeeeeeeez?!?!?

Unfortunately, the 19th and 26th of June, being the two Saturdays in June that I'm not working, would be the best for me. Take pity on someone who hasn't been able to attend for over a year, due to work schedule conflicts... :(
Dangit! My hat of you schedule know no limit!!11!

:)

Well, I know that I wasn't planning to go to Origins, so I have no problem with the 26th. Most of my April and May will probably be spent redecorating and moving into the house I just bought, so I don't mind pushing game day back a bit so I can prep more.

I dunno about the GP staff, though.

We haven't been involved with Origins in the past, except for my brief half-day stopover there last year on the way back from vacation. So the 26th is ok with me, too.

Any weekend besides the 5th is good with me. I have a motorcycle trip that weekend. I don't go to Origins either so the 26th is great.

Getting back on topic, I think that recruiting DMs prior to sign-up is a good idea. You may still get straggler DMs, but you will start with a fuller plate and that will help.

Unless you pick the fifth (which will just be too much stress on you with your move), I am running a mid level D&D adventure.

As far as I can remember, the CGD seems to have been a 3-times per year event. I've quite fond of the rotation, as it gets people with perhaps different schedules more chances to come to one of the gamedays. Not to mention more gaming per year is much better in my book... :D I love the gamedays since they're actually one of the few times that I can play games during the school year, and I can also get a chance to play new and different games.

I'd say let's keep the current rotation which i believe has worked itself out to be June-ish -- Octoberish --Februaryish

And let me be one of the first to volunteer to GM a slot of... somethign... :D

OK, first off, someone want to give the clueless a capsule summary of what we're talking about? I presume a day (or is it actually a whole weekend?) of gaming at some disclosed location in Chicago? Games are signed up ahead of time, just like a mini-con? If i've got that right, i'd love to run a game or two. I've got this really cool social-centric D20 that hasn't had enough workout yet...
Anyway, is it required to be D20 System games, or that's just the preference?

As for schedule: i live close enough to Chi-town, and my brother and a whole bunch of friends are there so i'm always looking for an excuse to head down there for a weekend. However, there're two scheduling constraints by me: i'm not available Halloween (or whichever weekend falls closest), and i'm not available during any of the big cons (Origins, GenCon)--i've got a company to promote at those. I'd *really* rather not do it the weekend before or after a big con, either, 'cause they tend to burn me out.

In general, i'd recommend against those two 3week periods (centered on the cons). I'd think it'd be a pretty poor choice to do it in either of those periods, for a number of reasons: GMs, players, companies, etc.

Oh, and as for competing with Origins: howabout helping Origins out, instead? The management of Origins is *so* much better than GenCon, it's not even funny. However, there simply is more gaming at GenCon. So run a game at Origins--you'll get better exposure than GenCon (won't get lost in the crowd so much), and if there was more gaming at Origins it'd kick GenCon's hiney, and then we wouldn't have to deal with GenCon any more. And Columbus is *much* nicer than Indy--not to mention the foodcourt in the convention center is 24hr during the convention.

See, this is why I need to make a Web site with a FAQ on it... :)

Yes, Chicago Game Day is a full day (9:30am -9:30pm, usually) of gaming held at the wonderful Games Plus in Mt. prospect, IL. GMs and players sign up via a sign-up thread here at ENWorld (not the current thread). Games can use whatever system the GM prefers, but there is a definite d20 bias, as one would suspect.

The next one is in June, and it looks like it'll be the 26th (my choice), or possibly the 12th.

Welcome aboard!

Well, i can only be aboard if it's the 12th--Origins is too important to a fledgling game company to even consider skipping it.

Don't any of your coworkers owe you favors? If they don't now, we can have some sort of event where you come to their rescue from a masked assailant (me). :] Naturally they will be in debt to you forever and be like, "oh pbartender, you're so strong... how can i ever repay you!?" Of course the obvious answer is working for you during Gameday! :heh:

The problem isn't so much getting the time off, but sucking up 14 hours of over time for working the weekend. That'll buy an awful lot of game goodies.

We'll see what happens, looks like I might get to make it this summer...

Hrm...

Should I run a Pirate (Skull & Bones) game?
Or an Interplanetary Spy (Spycraft in space) game?
