As far as I can remember, the CGD seems to have been a 3-times per year event. I've quite fond of the rotation, as it gets people with perhaps different schedules more chances to come to one of the gamedays. Not to mention more gaming per year is much better in my book...

I love the gamedays since they're actually one of the few times that I can play games during the school year, and I can also get a chance to play new and different games.
I'd say let's keep the current rotation which i believe has worked itself out to be June-ish -- Octoberish --Februaryish
And let me be one of the first to volunteer to GM a slot of... somethign...
OK, first off, someone want to give the clueless a capsule summary of what we're talking about? I presume a day (or is it actually a whole weekend?) of gaming at some disclosed location in Chicago? Games are signed up ahead of time, just like a mini-con? If i've got that right, i'd love to run a game or two. I've got this really cool social-centric D20 that hasn't had enough workout yet...
Anyway, is it required to be D20 System games, or that's just the preference?
As for schedule: i live close enough to Chi-town, and my brother and a whole bunch of friends are there so i'm always looking for an excuse to head down there for a weekend. However, there're two scheduling constraints by me: i'm not available Halloween (or whichever weekend falls closest), and i'm not available during any of the big cons (Origins, GenCon)--i've got a company to promote at those. I'd *really* rather not do it the weekend before or after a big con, either, 'cause they tend to burn me out.
In general, i'd recommend against those two 3week periods (centered on the cons). I'd think it'd be a pretty poor choice to do it in either of those periods, for a number of reasons: GMs, players, companies, etc.
Oh, and as for competing with Origins: howabout helping Origins out, instead? The management of Origins is *so* much better than GenCon, it's not even funny. However, there simply is more gaming at GenCon. So run a game at Origins--you'll get better exposure than GenCon (won't get lost in the crowd so much), and if there was more gaming at Origins it'd kick GenCon's hiney, and then we wouldn't have to deal with GenCon any more. And Columbus is *much* nicer than Indy--not to mention the foodcourt in the convention center is 24hr during the convention.
