Chicago Gameday - Last Comments then to the Archive!

I want you! to play in my game.

Howdy. I"m *hoping* to run an Unknown Armies at gamesday. My game is already listed over at RPG.net, but I'm trying to get a full set of players. (Ideally, seven or eight.) I know this is a D20 forum, but hey, I need players. Here's my spiel.

Unknown Armies is a very straightforward percentile system. The Setting is
Modern- Why, it could even be today. The Scenario will be Jailbreak, written by
Greg Stolze. (Characters are provided) Compared to a typical tabletop scenario, it's a bit
unconventional, but I've run it before, and it really is fun as all get-out. IT's being run in the second Track of the day.

The Introduction: It was not a quiet night: a sudden storm blew across the farmlands,
bringing thunder and lightning. An old man and his wife looked out at the storm as it
turned to hail. They discussed going to the cellar, deciding to do so only if the weather
became worse.

They didn't listen to the radio, so they didn't hear the news. They didn't try to call anyone,
so they didn't know their phones had been cut. They did not know there had been a
jailbreak. They did not know a guard had been taken hostage by four convicts, convicts
who had then siezed a van on the highway.

Maybe the wife briefly saw a face at the window and dismissed it as a trick of the light and
her own fancy. Maybe the husband squinted his aged eyes into the storm. But their dog
was quiet, their house was secure from the storm and neither really suspected.

They had no clue until they felt a cold draft from the direction of the back door, until they
turned and saw a large man pointing a pistol at them. He was soaking wet, dressed in
orange coveralls with "Surrey State Penitentiary" stenciled on the front and back. His eyes
were wide but his voice was calm as he said "Do what we say and no one dies." Then he
looked over his shoulder and said "Icepick, bring in the others."

I see that the Unknown Armies game is being run in the second slot. I have just signed on for it, and hope you do not mind if I wander off for a moment or two, now and again, to take some pictures for the Gameday (I'll probably just be stepping back from the table every so often and taking a quick pick, not gone for more than 30 seconds or so at a time). :)

Speaking of which, are the rpg.net guys aware of what games we have planned? I haven't seen anything about their plans so I'm wondering what they know of ours. For all I know there could be another 3-4 RPG.net guys wanting to play in my Spycraft game? (ok, unlikely BUT...)

Our link has been added to their thread a few times, and their link has been added to ours a few times. Plus both links are in my sig and both links are connected to the banners for the sites at the top of the page dedicated to this Gameday on my website. I'd be surprised if many people missed it... :D

And, please feel free to post over in their thread, RD. It will only hurt a little bit and only for a little while... ;)

It looks like there are plenty of games being run, doesn't it?

Oh certainly, but you must admit that it's a little unprecidented.

Before you ask, the separate room was used by the RPGNet gameday to chat, set up other gameday things, etc, and it turned out to be a perfect use for it. Since we do not have enough games to worry about needing the extra table in there for an actual game, we'll use it as our discussion area as well. Did I figure out your plan...? *raises eyebrows*

Actually I hadn't though of that... But it is a great idea.

Hey Matt... I'd like to play in your afternoon Call of Cthulu game, since I'm interested in trying out D20 CoC. Only, I have never played with that particular set of D20 rules... I don't even own the book. Is that a problem? Or can that be worked around?

If there's room, my group will be there at rougly 1:30 PM/2:00 PM.

Sounds fine. It looks like there will be plenty of room. I look forward to seeing all of your group again! :)

P_Bartender - I'll go ahead and add you to Matt's game. I'm sure he will be fine with having a novice go insane at his table. :D

Hey all. I realize I gave a whole bunch of prerequisites for making up your own characters for my d20 Modern game, but I've been writing and I'm thinking the scenario would be better served with pre-gens. That way I can assure that there's a wide variety of skills in the party. So if you've started making a character, give me a heads-up so we can talk about what we could do with the character.

Thanks,

Mike

Cthulhu's main rule difference from other d20 games is its Sanity rules, which are quickly explained and grasped. As I mentioned over on the RPG.net thread, I love havin' me some new blood in a Cthulhu game.

Later,
Matt
