Chicken Familiar?!

Surprise him by giving the chicken an attack iteration of peck, wing, wing, claw, claw- with a rend upon both claws landing.

I personally would just give +2 to a skill that seems chickenish.. like hide (ok, it is cowardly more than what a chicken would do).

Give the sorc a +2 bonus to diplomacy when dealing with commoners or something like that. Just keep it in line with other familar bonuses- usually either bonuses to skills or stats.

He can remain conscious and act normally up to -10 hp. (Chicken with its head cut off), though he still bleeds every turn.

That actually makes sense in a sick kind of way and it balanced too

Good show

Chicken have a reputation of stupidity; although they're not as stupid as they are said to.

That said, they still aren't much bright. I would give them a -1 Int penalty compared to what they should have given their level (so, if you're of a level that makes your familiar's Int be 10, it'll only have 9). As a granted power to its master, I would give feather fall for free once per day (the first time that day the master make a fall of 15 ft. or more).

This actually makes good sense. I used to raise chickens (lived on a hobby farm) and it always surprised me how well they flew

I like feather fall,

chickens may not be able to actually fly, but they could slow a descent or even get a few feet off the ground for a moment

becaw!

When my players pick out a familiar, I'm happy if they pick anything other than Toad

over and over

Toad, Toad, Toad

(you're a Gnome for the love of pete, you have CON out the wazoo anyway)

but hey still do it

ANYWAY my bid is for feather fall. Maybe more than 1/day, but maybe not.

you would eat your familiar's BABIES? You sick, sick man!

Babies only if the chicken has intimately known a rooster.

"Stay virgin, my dear pet, I want to eat omelettes without qualms !"

The -1 Int (to familiar, not to master) was there only to balance a bit with the feather fall effect. As I said, I have found chicken smarter than they're said to be (even if still utter morons compared to ravens or parrots).
