Chicken Familiar?!

Feather Fall is too much. As, probably, is a bonus to movement. I also think toad's give too much, but their utter worthlessness as scouts makes up for that. I think skill bonuses are the way to go. Save bonuses are ok too.

Hmm. Do you have the proverb "Sometimes even a blind chicken picks a corn" (not sure if the translation is 100%. German: "Auch ein blindes Huhn findet mal ein Korn") in English?

The master gains the feat Blind Fight (maybe like the accomponied Alertness feat only if within a certain distance from the chicken :) )

Oh, and toads are not useless as scouts - just think about aquatic regions...

Frogs maybe, but toads ? They don't live in water, and go back to their river or pool only when mating, because tadpole need it. They are rather clumsy swimmers, and very slow walkers -- useless as scouts.

Heh, yeah and you should see what my in-game wizard would eat. Basically damn near anything that will provide nutrition and isnt poisonous, though there are still arguments about eating elves and stuff even though it isnt what 'nice folks do'.
I blame its upbringing... and the fact I dont like familiars unless I can find someone who can cook or have a Quimby's Enhanting Goumet memorised.

Back to the topic at hand, maybe a +1 to Spot checks, birds have pretty good eyesight and hearing if the increased movement rate was considered too much.

One more, (very comic) idea that came to my mind while watching my son play his N64 video game Banjo-Kazoie is a chicken gun.
:D The sorceror can grap the chicken by the neck, point its arse at a foe, and fire an "egg" by janking on its neck.
:D Eggs should have a low range increment (maybe 15ft).
:D Roll randomly on a table to determine the effect of a egg. Some eggs are "cantrip-like" effects, others just normal eggs.
:D Limit this ability to a few times per day - maybe 1d6.

Anyone care to expand on this idea?
