Chicken Mage!

Scribble

First Post
I DM for a small group in a homebrew world. Last night they were exploring the northern territory of the kingdom they live in, and came across a rather unique traveller...

Kareem Darjure, a travelling merchant of all things arcane (and chickens.)

He was a little man traveling through the woods in a carriage covered in chicken coops, pulled by some sort of metallic humanoid. (A shield guardian)

The little man offered to sell them some scrolls or potions, or perhaps remove a curse or two, in addition to selling them a fresh chicken or two for dinner.

The group took him up on a few scrolls and a chicken.

Later that night when they slaughtered the chicken for dinner, they discovered it was actually a polymorphed commoner.

They were no longer very happy.

They went back to fight. One of them died. :(

That's hilarious!

I might have to use that in my own game.

At first, I thought this thread was an homage to Samurai Jack, where Jack met a man who was feared throughout a large city for turning people into chickens. Jack bumped into him, and got turned into a chicken, where he was promptly picked up by a man who raised chickens to fight in an arena. Jack, being Jack, of course dominated in the chicken arena.

Eventually, he got changed back.

I love it! Mind posting the stats?

Sure.

He's going to return. He's a mage from a thusfar unknown (to the characters at least) citystate to the far far north. The commoners in question owed him a debt that they could not repay. Under the laws of the (evil) citystate he was allowed to imprison them and ransom them for his money. The family of the chicken whom he sold did not respond in time.

If his schtick is turning people into chickens, why does he use so many conjurations and such? Why doesn't he use baleful polymorph and lots of DC boosters?

Baleful polymorph is in his spellbook. He just didn't have it memorized.

turning people into chickens isn't really his "schtick," it's just a convinient way for him to transport his ransoms. Plus chickens are just funny.
