Children of Darkness - More about the drow

More free stuff about the race we love to hate the most.

Looks good at first glance, but going to work now, so haven't got the time to read it before later. By then, I am sure some of you guys can tell me if it is worth reading.

Cheers

I've never had anything REALLY bad to say about the drow. Drozzot always seemed pretty neat, and the race as a whole certainly has an appeal, BUT COME ON.

Too many drow spoil the drow.

They are fine, they are neat, but isn't there enough of them already? Is it just me or are they far and away the most documented race, more than even the core races?

Ramble Ramble: Crux of point: Bok Bok drow are fine. Too many drow. Bok.

I love the idea of the Epic Destiny that is laid out in that article.

Although I can see a comedy sketch, whereby a Drow achieves the perfect transcendance, is reborn as an Eladrin, opens their eyes - only to see a Drow Priestess leaning over them going "Ha! Now we got you!"

Why do I see this translating into Urban Arcana 4e drow getting plastic surgery and going through a skin bleaching process?

I too thought that the Epic Destiny was pretty cool.

Overall, I liked this article, mostly for the crunch. That said, while I do appreciate the DDI support for drow, genasi, gnolls, warforged, and dragonborn, I wish we could get some nice racial goodness for everyone else (especially heroic tier eladrin since that's what I'm currently playing).

Except for that feat "Drow Heretic" - who's going to blow a feat just to do +2 damage against Spiders?

That was EXACTLY my first thought. Was looking at the feats was like 'okay, interesting, could be useful, wtf +2 damage against SPIDERS?' I mean, it could be +20 damage against spiders and I still don't think people would take it very often...

Only time this would be worth it is at low levels you can switch out a feat to take it when you KNOW you're gonna be fighting lots of drow and spiders together for at least 1-2 levels and then switch it out later. Otherwise, just take Weapon Focus. Gives damage and even gets better!

However, if your playing in a heavy underdark campaign that may have tons of spiders, then it could make sense.

Not all feats have to be generally useful, especially ones that are in supplements like these. Most campaigns wouldn't use the feat, but a few might.

I liked it, mostly because the article points out that not every random bartender and shopkeep in the world has read the Monster Manual.
