This landmark release represents the perfect solution for both 1.5-inch and 1-inch base miniatures. Whether you have a collection of click based minis in need of a dungeon or you simply want more room for your 1-inch miniature combat Chunky Dungeons is the ultimate solution for you!

Chunky Dungeons incorporates WorldWorks latest creation the “Pro Masterboard TM”. The new “Pro Masterboard TM” design allows you to “build as you play” only laying out walls and ground tiles as your players see them. Perhaps the most incredible element of the Pro Masterboard is the ability to “place and stick” your models making them unmovable even with the most forceful table bumping. Using the techniques described in detail within Chunky Dungeons you can literally flip your design upside down and not a single corridor or floor tile will move out of place! BELIEVE IT!

For the first time in 3-D cardstock we also bring you the added element of CURVED WALLS! With a surprisingly simple and speedy building process you’ll be constructing incredible curved dungeons with ease. From a castle towers, dungeon wells or to the most mind-bending of curvy rooms and corridors the possibilities are truly endless!

Add to this incredible system a flood of dungeon props with the meticulous and expertly crafted texture work WorldWorks has become famous for and you have one dungeon that’s hard to beat! If that weren’t enough we’ve thrown in a “Props Booster” pack full of props from previous hit WorldWorks releases. When we say “landmark release” we mean it!

Chunky Dungeons

On to another pdf that uses miniatures. I have seemingly got a good amount of these lately, and most of them have been pretty good. But none of them are like this one. Chunky Dungeons is not about printing out alternatives minis or battle maps like many of the others. Chunky Dungeons is about printing out props like furniture, weapon racks, and having good three dimensional full color objects for your maps.

Chunky Dungeons is an electronic product by World Works Games. This is the first product that I have seen of theirs, but a quick look on their website reveals that these guys have a lot of ideas and some exciting stuff coming along. Chunky Dungeons is a collection of different things that anyone can print out and create. It comes in a sixteen meg zip file and is filled with many different files. All together these files are a bit under twenty megs in size. The fifteen dollar price tag might be a bit pricey as there are other things on needs to have to be able to use this product.

Chunky Dungeons is a little more involved then any other item like this I have seen. These are not designed to be printed out on normal paper. They recommend 110lb card stock, what most business cards are made from. When putting these together one needs a hobby knife, white craft glue, straight edge ruler, wooden ruler or pencil (for hard to reach areas), cutting pad, and of course the card stock. So, while one does not need to be a craftsman to do this, it does take some time, skill, and effort.

What is made using this product though is pretty good. They have all sort of walls: Columns, corners, curved walls, doors gates, etc. However, there are not many to a page so to get a lot of these one will need to print out a few pages worth. The props can have a bit more to a page. They include stairs, torches, torture room, treasure chests, beds, libraries, etc. Everything is full color and the art is really good.

Lastly, is the Pro Masterboard section. This stuff is more time involved, needs some equipment like Velcro, and seem one will need to be a little more careful in doing this. The purpose of the Pro Masterboard is to create a way for the floor and props to stay put if the boards get accidentally knocked. Anyone how has used similar things knows that it is not hard to ruin a set up that took a bit of time to create.

Chunky Dungeons is a nice product designed for those who want a little bit more for their miniatures but does not want to spend the money for a full terrain. It will be good as it is easy to print out more and the cost per individual item is not high, so if they do get ruined it is not that big of deal. It does take a bit of work, and costs a little extra for the paper and if one doe not have the available tools on hand. It is also a little more dependant on the skill of the user, so hopefully with a little patience and practice anyone can create they things.

Hmmm, for some reason a blank version of my comment appeared above my actual coment. Hitting edit took me back to the reviews page rather than allowing me to edit the post, and hitting 'back' caused it to repost...

If a kindly moderator feels like removing the extra nonsense it would be okay by me.

The Auld Grump

After reviewing Wizard’s of the Coast 3-D maps, I went back to a product I received for the Ennies, Darkstone Halls, Volume #1 in the Chunky Dungeons series. In many ways, it’s the same type of beast as the WoTC product. It has a similar construction and packing. The tiles are on good heavy stocked paper and have great illustrations. They can be assembled and made into a 3-D environment. Instructions on the cardstock itself are brief to nonexistent.

In terms of physical material, we have 60 pages with over 279 full color items. The only problem I have with it, is that the floor tiles don’t have marks to show where the crucial one inch marks are for any D&D campaign. It’s not a terrible issue as most of them look suitied for say Mage Knight and you could approximate it, but it’s a shame that the extra step couldn’t be taken. Maybe provide one for the one-inch scale and on the electronic version, include another one for the one and a half inch version.

A lot of material is included here. This ranges from classic floor tiles with everything from skeletons and sewer grates lined up on them, to water and laval canal tiles with props ranging from bookcases and beds, to tables and torture wheels. The scale on those and the walls isn’t really as noticeable as the lack of scale on the floor.

The crucial area where this product is superior is that it comes with a CD. When you pop the CD into your computer, you get a menu with adobe reader, instructions, and models and more instructions. When looking at the WoTC product, I knew that some people who love this paper stuff would want multiple towers and walls requiring them to buy multiple copies. With this product, you can just print out the stuff you want extras of.

When looking at the instructions, they’re in PDF format. The bad news is that the instructions are ugly being on a black background and would tax even the most robust of printers with it’s ink drain and is thus a better online guide. Instructions include a list of materials, printing instructions, cutting tips, gluing, edging, clipping, weighing down the models, and how to store them. This information could easily apply to all 3-D paper products and is good advice. While the black background is an abomination, each section does include full color photos for ease of following along.

When looking at individual parts, say for example, columns, you’ll have two files. One the actual models themselves, in PDF format, the other, instructions for that model, also in PDF format. These instructions are much better in that they’re on white background with specific instructions for that type of model. It includes difficulty, build time, and number of models that you’ll typically need. For example, on columns, it has a listing of four to six.

The instructions and the ability to print out what you need make this product superior to the WoTC one in pretty much every way. Even if you count the downloads from the WoTC site, this product includes the CD with it and has more pages than the WoTC one. If you’re looking for an inexpensive
