"Elayna Valsice, though some people in Medibaria call her the dark lord. She sucked the souls of several people at the Academy for some neferious purpose, including my poor roomate."
"Wouldn't the proper term be 'dark lady?'" Ashnar wonders a bit. "Likely a necromancer then, and apparently quite powerful."

"And I thought being thrown in a pit as baby dragon food was a horrible fate," Eanos says under his breath, shuddering at the thought of having his very soul ripped from his body.

"According to the histories, she was primarily a Transmuter," Laynie points out, "But she was also a Necromancer. While most Wizards can only specialise in one school, those who train at the Academy can often master twice as much."

"Necromancy... I've never like much that kind of magic. It play with things I prefer not to play with. You won't find much item mimicking these type of power in my shops. Opale, my cousin, she had never shown any of these sells to me or my son. Her master had forbidden her to use it, telling that it wasn't an art for her skills."

"The more I hear about this woman, the less I want to meet her."

"Necromancy has the reputation of being the school of magic that raises the undead and shatters souls. That is not wrong, but it is incomplete. It can just as well harm the undead, and be used to incapacitate people without killing them. Used responsibly, necromancy is little different from evocation, and might be more humane in a few cases. But, as with all things, care must be taken."

"I agree," Laynie nods in agreement with Ashnar's assessment, "I plan to study Necromancy myself, but not to raise undead or anything like that. As far as I know, this 'Dark Lord' never raised undead either. Actually, if you ask me, the stuff she's supposed to have done back when she got the name is hardly fitting of the name 'Dark Lord'. More like organising a secret club of wizards descending from ancient families with little or no follow through. I don't think they even killed anyone."

"I know, it isn't the spell who is evil, it is only some magical force. It is teh wielder who is evil... well, creating an undead is evil in my difnition, even if it is to raise an army to defend a good cause, but that's more philosophy. And I have a scroll of ray of enfeeblement at my store... but don't expect to see something to raise undead." tells Rinaldo.

"Raising the undead might be, no matter what the intention - I have read theories that creating such permanent wells of negative energy may easily strengthen the influence of the Southern Tower, eventually pushing away and negating the other towers, turning the world into a bleak wasteland. Though I have no knowledge if this is factual, and it seems that it does not apply to other long-term spells that utilize other energies."

"Hmm...raising an army of undead to defend a good cause--that was in that book Vanitri made me read when I was little. I think that's the actual dilemma that faced the great archmage Sice, one of the Academy's founders, and he chose to make the undead."
