Elise thinks on it for a moment not quite sure how to respond. A long moment passes.

You don't have to be strong to defy the mighty. She says slowly, unconsiously rubbing a point on her side just below her arm. You just resist those who would harm others.

Of course knowing a bit of magic helps. She pats the scroll case and spell pouch at her hip.
But, even then you can only do your best with the talents you have. Anything less...

Aaron nods slightly. "You speak the truth." He pauses in thought. "To act without purpose or cause is to deny our nature. Allow me to answer your question. Why am I here?"

Aaron again pauses and appears to laugh at himself slightly. "I am inspired by Shurassa -- on the one hand breaking down and on the other giving calm. I see myself as both a recipient and agent of this process."
...
"As I suppose we all are. But I find myself inspired by the idea and fulfilled by this adventure."
...
Aaron pauses a little longer, then breaking his reverie speaks again, "Are you happy with the choices that you have made?"

Are you happy? Elise repeats...

Looking down at Ligaea, Elise rubbed her familiars neck taking a moment to break off one of the new feather sheaths that tropical birds grow so often.

I have made a lot of choices in my life and I believe that I have made the most of those choices. Each of those choices felt right at the time, while not every choice ended well, none ended particularly badly. With these decisions I am happy.

Elise pushes on On the other hand, there were decisions that at the time felt wrong and to this day I do not fully understand why I made them. It is these decisions that I regret. Each of these had a profound result on myself and, I'd imagine, those I came to know as friends.

She leans forward in anticipation, of what, she does not know. So, no, I'm not particularly happy with all the decisions that I've made.

Though a question like this makes me wonder, Where do you see yourself in relation to the happiness of strangers?

Aaron half smiles and seems to look inward a bit. "I guess you've caught me. In answer to your question I believe that people are responsible for their own happiness. I..." Aaron pauses and furrows his brow for a moment then continues.

"Where do I see myself? Well. First is acceptance. Of the way things are."

"Next is understanding. Understanding may never come, but that is okay, because I have first cultivated acceptance. Understanding is powerful. Actually becoming another creature."

Acceptance is easy enough. I've accepted that you like to ask difficult question...
Understanding it... I'm still working on.

Aaron chuckles. "Don't worry about it."

Easy for you to say. Elise laughs. Now that we're done bringing up stuff I'd rather not think about, what's next? Compare spells? Introduce me to anyone you know here? Do a jig and sing the Medibarrian national anthem?

"Even though you may be speaking in jest. I may be open to any one of those suggestions. I am interested in your spellcasting ability."

"I have just recently arrived, and do not really know anyone else yet, but I am sure other voices would add welcome insight on our discussion."

Elise glances over at the "other" table with adventurers, so to speak. One could assume that.

There's not much to my magic, other than the years of study. The exact pronuciation of difficult arcane words and... She pull out a pinch of multicolored sand from her pouch, letting in fall from one hand to the other...the right materials

"Hm. Well, lets have some fun. I am new here and want to get to know others a bit better. Le me also show you what I mean by understanding."

Having said that, Aaron grasps a leafy twig attached to his vest, waves his other hand a bit, and mumbles a couple of words. After several seconds a monkey appears on the table between Aaron and Elise. The monkey promptly scampers off to cause mischief among the other patrons.

"Elise, I understand monkeys fairly well. I wonder if we will now get to know our fellows a little better."

[sblock=Spellcasting]
Level 0: Detect Magic, Purify Food and Drink, Guidance
Level 1: Obscuring Mist, Pass without Trace

Aaron sacrifices Obscuring Mist to cast to cast Summon Nature's Ally I. With his summoning concetration feat the monkey will continue to exist until Aaron's concetration is broken. Unfortunately pushing an animal is a full round action so he cannot push the monkey to do anything. Since Aaron is not aware of any enemy in the common room, the monkey should not attack anyone.
