Maladar watches the others spring to action and head out the door. He realizes that someone could be hurt and decides to follow the others out. With his armor and most of his weapons in his room he sighs knowing that this could turn out bad.

ooc: Maladar only has two daggers on him, both hidden in boots.

"Want to borrow a full sized weapon?" Ironwolf asks the Dwarf as he moves out into the street. He looks around.

ooc: Well, Dargon? Is this an adventure hook, or just a random noise?

Devlin finishes his drink and starts toward the door. "Well, might as well go see what all the fuss is about. Refill that for me just in case it's nothing serious, will you Joe?"

As several adventurers head out to examine the noise, a well dressed woman enters the Red Dragon Inn, followed by three retainers. Two of them are obviously bodyguards, while the third is a very old woman in a grey robe of the Chromatic Order, fringed in Conjurer's blue.

She speaks briefly with Joe and money changes hands, and then she turns to adress the room.

"I have an urgent need for spellcasters, the more powerfull the better, of the adventuring persuasion. I am hoping to find at least one master of divine magic and at least one of arcane magic. I can afford to hire four adventurers of quality, and the spellcasters may need the assistance of someone skilled in breaking and entering, mountain climbing, and stealth. I've been told that there might be some here who would have such skills, but I must warn you my mission is for a small and elite group only. Do any of you think you might meet those qualifications?"

ooc: While the lady seems quite determined in the qualifications that she lists, those are mostly in character conditions. Anyone is welcome to respond.

"You probably don't know them by the names we would use in our homeland," (OOC: probably true--unfortunately for Zaeryl, the Chromatic Order considers psionics to be garbage and doesn't collect lore on it. Zaeryl, on the other hand, has quite high Knowledge: Arcana, so he is going to try to avoid it) "You would say...now we do not like Enchantment spells, but Dominate Person is of the same tier of power as our most powerful current dweomers. We know of many that are more powerful, but are unfortunately limited at the moment...we are sure you are aware of the troubles involving coming back from the dead and the loss of a spellcaster's power in so doing?"

(OOC: Dominate Person is a 5th level spell but a 4th level psionic power, so he is technically correct, plus in his specialty area of Astral Constructs, he has almost the equivalent of a 6th-level spell if he overchannels :])

She quickly consults with her elderly wizard retainer. That older woman asks the next question.

"Do you know any spells that might be usefull in destroying or protecting military forces, or in fighting a Dragon?"

"We have access to powerful conjurations that can supplement the forces of any military force to create a small army drawn in from the planes themselves. Additionally, our area-of-effect Evocations are useful in fighting large groups of weak enemies. Dragons are mainly protected by hefty scaled armour, formidable capacity to avoid the full effects of spells that sometimes work and sometimes don't, and resistance to most spells on top of that. Spells that conjure things that are then non-magical and toss them at the dragon, however, are very likely to succeed against such a large target--they are the draconic weak point. We have access to these magics as well, and our Resist Energy magics can protect from the dragon's breath weapon."

"Very good. May we assume you are prepared to demonstrate your power if asked?" The old conjurer asks.

Her patron interrupts her.

"Perhaps I should give an explanation of the trouble we expect, so that all those here might have a better idea as to whether they wish to seek this particular employment. First, you may have allready heard some rumors regarding the Dragon attack on the City of Brimbor. Four terrifying monsters, the like of which have not been seen except in the stoney form outside this inn for many years, joined together and assaulted the city. While I expect Brimbor will eventually be rebuilt, the destruction was massive. The attack was without warning, and the Dragons only chose to communicate after the destruction had been wrought. They demanded that the surrounding cities give them tribute, and those cities have agreed, knowing of no force that could withstand the attack of an organized cabal of dragons."

She crosses her arms defensively in front of her as she shrugs off that fait accompli and continues.

"One of the Dragons has continued the assault, sending his minions to besiege a powerfull enchanted fortress in the Stonespike Mountains near Brimbor. The fortress is of significant military importance, and it's specifically designed to be difficult to aproach either by land or air. It was designed in a time in which aerial adversaries such as Dragons were not as rare as they have become in recent decades. Specifically, on top of a variety of magical wards that make it impossible to teleport into and hazardous to aproach through the air, the fortress has the ability to greatly magnify spells cast in its controll center, so that defensive magics can cover the entire fortress and all those within, and offensive magics can have surprising reach."

"The fortress is said to be inpenetrable as long as it is defended by spellcasters of power. Unfortunately, the spellcasters assigned there in these more peacefull times are not 'of power.' Thats why a concortium of patriots has gathered funds to help hold the fortress. We want to keep our homeland strong in the face of the Dragons, and to protect our loved ones who are holding out inside the fortress itself."
