City Resource

Baston Balmoral

First Post
I am thinking about starting a new campaign. I would like it to be based in a city. Any opinions on what products are out there that are decent and would provide a fairly detailed city for a campaign?

Thanks

welcome to the boards Baston Balmoral :D

i've heard some good things about Freeport by Green Ronin. i've read the the main setting book (and like it), but haven't had a chance to play in that setting yet. Freeport also has a bunch of supplements/adventure books available - more info can be found here: http://www.greenronin.com/

Freeport (Green Ronin) and Bluffside (Thunderhead Games/Mystic Eye Games) are really good city books.

Take a look into the reviews section, there are some reviews about both books in there.

I've also heard that Freeport and Bluffside are quite good however if you're willing to troll through 2nd hand products or get an ESD (I'm not sure if it is available on ESD or not though), you should try getting the World of Greyhawk boxed set which has in it the City of Greyhawk supplement (I think that's how it is anyway) as it's pretty darn cool, even if Gygax wrote it :D

Aside from that resource, there's plenty of other stuff for the City of Greyhawk around the traps if you're willing to search for it. There was a ripper map done up by one of the Greytalkers, in one of the first Living Greyhawk Journals which may or may not still be available for backorder from the RPGA. It's also available at Maldin's website, here (beware that the page requires java and is a big download): http://www.timebomb.on.ca/denist/greyhawk/cogh.html

Greyhawk has to be one of THE most detailed cities in any game system. Aside from the reference I mentioned above, it has numerous other OOP products based on it so as long as you're up to the challenge of finding the OOP material, there is an absolute BUTTLOAD of stuff out there for it that should keep you going for a very long while.

Ugh, I keep forgetting stuff and having to come back and edit the post!

Also, you might want to check out Canonfire! below as it has a lot of free, fan-based and otherwise, material for the World of Greyhawk.

I must agree both of those books have had a lot of reviews and information posted on them. Bluffside has a yahoo group and a fan book at www.fancc.org (I think) for more goodies and we have a free adventure located at RPGNow called "Right Beneath Their Noses" as well as more goodies readily available.

Look at the cities and see what would best fit your needs.
Also not to distract you from those 2 cities but Living Imagination has Streets of Silver coming out soon as well.

My 1983 WoG boxed set (I currently have hte ESD) does not have a City of Greyhawk supplement. I believe there was a City of Greyhawk Boxed set, but the ESD is not available (comments on that one...was it any good?)

Greyhawk, the Adventure begins supposedly has maps and details on the City of Greyhawk, but you advised me in another forum somewhere not to buy that one.

My favorite is Sanctuary, but that box set came out in 82 and is very hard to find. Of the cities in print Bluffside is the one I like best. Freeport, a close second. It really depends on what you want out of your city I guess.

Iron Kingdoms R Us

You could also give the Witchfire Trilogy from Privateer Press a try. The adventures are set in and around the city of Corvis-The City of Ghosts. Since Privateer is starting to come out with more material, it becomes a pretty good option.
