Did I miss the start of this Survivor? Where's Waterdeep (not that I wouldn't rejoice at it being beaten in an alley)?

It died in round 3

I would imagine very few, as it's too expensive for many of us with extremely limited entertainment budgets. Thus there's a bit of a sour grapes thing going on with a lot of people who are sick of hearing how great this thing is that we can't share in.

Sad. There are many fine things I can not afford, but that does not sour me against them. They are still fine products.

Ptolus is a wonderful product. I consider it an instant classic and expect to see it in my campaigns for many many years.

I've read the Ptolus primer and it looks like a very important gaming product. Once they're cheap, I'd like to get one.

However, I don't like a lot of Monte's world and setting ideas (his rules work is nice). The settings are too over the top for me. I think most of what he writes would work better on Farscape or something similar. They are just too implausible for me to include in a D&D game.

He also comes out of the 2e generation of D&D designers and many of his adventures fit the 2e story style. I think he's found his calling as an author now he has left the designer field.

Survivor threads. They aren't about the love, they are about the hate. :)

egads people! Not Ptolus!

I can't see why Ptolus is losing to these
City of Brass: The fabled extraplanar home of the evil efreeti.
Freeport: Avast ye! This be the main port o' call for Green Ronin's d20 materials!
Greyhawk City: The Free City of Gygaxian origination.
Lankhmar: Fafhrd and the Grey Mouser (and not those two similar guys from Greyhawk novels) call this place home.

Is it the hype surrounding Ptolus? How many people, that are voting against Ptolus, actually read the book?

I had a look at the Ptolus book and whilst its a nice book it hasn't really got anything new and innovative that hasn't been done before

So yes I voted it against:
City of Brass: Exotic Mythic Kewlness
Freeport: Exotic Piratey Kewlness
Greyhawk City: Don't care
Lankhmar: I never experienced DnDs version but straight from the books Fafhrd and the Grey Mouser are great characters with some great stories and Lankhmar has some wonderfully evocative street names and weirdness going for it

Of course as I've said Glantris was the most interesting of them and now its gone

Sigil, I have no use for your yoni and/or lingam. How explicit must one city be?!

That... you... wow! Never noticed before.

Thanks for ruining Planescape, -- N

PS: "Lady of Pain" indeed. :uhoh:

Kinda hard not to notice...

PS: Yes, Sigil is far too Freudian for my tastes.

I haven't voted for Ptolus yet as there was little chance of taking it out. But I certainly think it's substandard compared to many of its competitors. Don't assume your taste, just because is yours, will be shared by others.
Right back at ya. Got a more substantive critique than "substandard?" And honestly, have any of you compared these remaining cities to the RPG version of Lankhmar?
