Keep bringing the classes. I'm curious to see how many ways there are to deal 2[W] damage, move the target X squares, and inflict ongoing suck (save ends).;)

You know, edition warring is a way to inflict ongoing suck onto EN World. And so long as people keep dumping crap into threads, we don't get a save.

Folks, if you really don't like 4e, slide over X threads - there'll be one that isn't about 4e, and you can actually enjoy the conversation there, instead of have things that aggravate you so much you choose to make discussion unpleasant for others.

Ah, found it! Its the Pest Controller Kit from Complete Book of Dwarves. :D

And they´re awesome: get Pest Control & Animal Lore NWP for free, wear shiny black leather armor and black leather helmets, and +5% to Move Silently and Find/Remove Traps! -10% to Pickpocket, though, and -2 reaction modifier except from Vermin Slayers and Wayfinders.

If you wondered, Vermin Slayer is a Warrior/Thief kit, and Pest Controller is only Thief.

And thanks to the mods for keeping the thread on track.

How many powers are actually identical to one another?

Even if there are many identical powers, it's no worse than having the same spell on multiple classes' spell lists.
Even more, concentrating on a single power, absent of context, is a bit frivolous. Nobody has just a single power.

You need to look at how it interacts with the character's class features, the character's other powers, the level of the powers in question, the sorts of weapons or implements which can be used with it... etc.

You know, something curious is happening here. Based on the comments, most folks playing 4e are pretty happy with the number of classes.

I'm guessing it's mostly people who aren't playing 4e are the ones who think there are too many? Or maybe the unhappy ones who are playing 4e are just quiet? :)

A-shaped = 2 primary stats, 1 secondary stat
V-shaped= 1 primary stat, 2 secondary stats
I thought it was the other way around...

Which option of the poll is the choice for "There is no class glut"? All the 4e classes are great, and I'm looking forward to seeing more. There was a time when I was all about having a few generic classes, but I like having a classes specially designed to tell the stories I want to tell.

I guess it could be argued that there really are only four "classes" - Defender, Controller, Striker, and Leader. Each class is basically a variation on the implications of Roles. Indeed, if anyone wanted to make a generic 4e, using the Roles is a good way to start.

I am currently playing in a 4E homebrew campaign and enjoying it. I don't think the actual number of classes thing is the same argument that it was in 3E. Just as powers have replaced the functionality that was formerly filled by feats, classes have been shifted down in importance and replaced by roles.

The charcter role is the largest determining factor in what types of things the character can do (at least as far as abilities are concerned), followed by class, then class path. In reality then, there are only four "classes": defender, striker, controller, and leader.

I don't see how we will get a glut until there are more roles released.

Disclosure: I don't care for or play 4e. Played a few games, didn't like it, blah blah blah.

As far as base classes go, 17 isn't a lot, especially considering the tight focus of 4e classes. I'd agree with Mr. Hansn that since the classes aren't as broad in 4e as 3.x (and maybe 2e, but it's been a while) that the game needs more classes to cover the same terrain. The 3.X druid, for instance was probably too broad in comparison (never saw it in my games, but we're pretty laid back) so it got parted out to make three (it was three, right?) different classes, each with a tight focus.

I doubt 4e will over fill the base class space for a good while, the nature of the classes in 4e does a lot to prevent that.

On the other hand, 219 Epic Destinies? Damn. Maybe there, but I still doubt it since from what I can tell EDs are massively focused on a single theme.
