You could also just take the free downloadable playtest barbarian, and never plan on buying the book it will be published in. I can steal ideas from here and other places to flesh it out.
4e runs like a dream, and from a business standpoint WotC are being smart, but I have other uses for my money than buying remixes of other classes with new fluff attached. It takes a lot to part me with my limited cash. The base system of 4e is an amazing platform, allowing tons of homebrewing. I need no further published material.
