Wait, Mengu, I was under the impression you can't beat trap DCs over 20 without training in Thievery.
I thought 4e allowed you to use any skill untrained. Mayhaps I'm wrong on that...

Are we not mentioning the Skill Training feat because it's too obvious?
(from the skill description of thievery)The DM might decide that some uses of this skill are so specialized that you are required to be trained in it to have a chance of succeeding.
you don't NEED training in thievery to use it, but (from the skill description of thievery)
In this respect, the Runepriest reminds me of the Runethane from Arcana Unearthed/Evolved. That class also had the equivalent of thievery, to suggest its literally hands-on approach to magic, and their penchant for working magic with objects, sort of like the 4e artificer. Maybe it also helped that Arcana Unearthed didn't have a straight up rogue/thief class.Seems odd to me that the Runepriest has it but whatever.
Let's not forget the old forgotten wild sorcerer who MC to rogue. With Sorcerous Blade Channeling you can even use the SA. Halfling makes the perfect choice for this as CHA/DEX and +2 racial to thievery.
