That's fine, but the home rolled stats were fine as well (though not steller, either). Okay I see the character:

John, don't drop out. THe dieroller is fair (I've tested it myself). More then likely, most people are rerolling until they get something that they like. During the game, the actual game rolling WILL be better, for the rolls will all be under one noae for each character, and they can not cheat (if you did NOT roll multiple times, then the above does not apply to you, so do not take it personally).

Anyway, with 4d6/picking the best 3,as a rolling meathode, there is a very good chance that a score will be 13 or above. Here are the chances:

3 - 0.0% 1 out of 1296
4 - 0.0% 4 out of 1296
5 - 1%
6 - 1%
7 - 3%
8 - 5%
9 - 7%
10 - 9%
11 - 10%
12 - 13%
13 - 13%
14 - 12&
15 - 10%
16 - 9%
17 - 4%
18 - 2% 21 out of 1296

So there is a 51% chance that a score will be above 13.

With the rolls that have been shown, it looks like 20 have been 13 or above, and 15 have been below, so that is a little off if no one had done what I think they may have, so I ran a test HERE. I rolled 100 times (which is a small persentage of possibilities: If I trully wanted to make an analitical analisis of this program I should roll a minimum of 129600 or 100 times the possible number of results), but even with this small persentage, the average is still pretty close:

3 - 0
4 - 0
5 - 1
6 - 1
7 - 0
8 - 3
9 - 11
10 - 15
11 - 10
12 - 12
13 - 9
14 - 14
15 - 8
16 - 8
17 - 5
18 - 3

In this test, there were actually 53% below 13 and 47% 13 or above, so this one actually ran low on the dice roller.

As you can see, there is no reason not to trust the die roller, especially when you have incomplete data (not knowing how many times the other players rolled).

Oh, I did find the average off of the 6 rolled in the above test, and since it was 400 rolls I feel better about these results. It averaged to 3.5075, and as you know the average should be 3.5. That, my friend is pretty darn close!

  1. I must be looking at a different edition then all of you guys, for my weights are in gold pieces. I've made the adjustment from gold pieces to pounds to keep up with you guys, but that was all. For a 5 strength, I get -2 to_hit -1 to_damage -250gp weight_allowance (that means that you can carry 25 pounds before your encumbered) 1 in 6 to open a locked door, 0% chance of bending bars.
  2. Any elf character starts with Elvish, Common, Gnome, halfling, goblin, hobgoblin, orcish, and knoll. An elf with an 18 intelegence gets 3 additional languages on top of these. You also have a minimum # of spell/level you can learn, and that is 9.
  3. 18 dex gives +3 Reaction/Attacking adjustment, not +2.
  4. My players hand book gives the loyalty and reaction bonuses in persantages rather then +s, but they equate to the same thing (if I rolled a 20 sided instead of percentile dice).
  5. Here are the list of ist level spells available to you:
    Affect Normal Fires
    Burning Hands
    Charm Person
    Comprehend Languages
    Dancing Lights
    Detect Magic
    Erase
    Feather Fall
    Find Familiar
    Friends
    Hold Portal
    Identify
    Jump
    Light
    Magic Missile
    Mending
    Message
    Nystul's Magic Aura
    Protection from Evil
    Push
    Read Magic
    Shield
    Shocking Grasp
    Sleep
    Spider Climb
    Tenser's Floating Disc
    Unseen Servant
    Ventriloquism
    Write

Now, what you do with this list is you pick the spell that you want the most and then roll persentile dice. If it's 85% or lower then you can learn that spell. Continue down the list that way until you have 18 spells you can learn, or until you run out of spells. If at the end of the list you have less then 9, then reroll the spells that you can not learn until you come to 9 (your minimum) and stop. Those are then the 9 spells that you can learn from the level 1 spell list. All of the spells you come up with are in your spell book (only up to 18 pages in your 50 page spell book).

Sorry, Mith' - I was using a couple of conventions to shorthand a few things. My +0 to hit (+2 ranged) equals a 20 THACO when looking at the to hit charts in the 1st edition DMG. But I re-posted in rogue's gallery with the changes.

Likewise, I edited my capacity under Strength back to "coins" - some people use coins, some use pounds, I went with what was on (I think ) rangerjohn's sheet.

Equipment will have to wait until tonight until I get home - I'm afraid all I have at work is the SRD! :D I already know I am packing the scimitar (40 coins) and the sling & bullets and the leather and wood shield. I may not have much room for anything else, except maybe food. :(

Can't wait to get killed! ;)

The problem is, as I've already stated, I too have rolled under multiple names. It's not that getting a 13 is hard, its getting 4 13+'s out of six. Ok, just realized the scores I had would do it, just have to be a tank, rather than an archer.

I hate to say it, but my rolls were done with one set. Those six were the first six rolls I made with the site. Either the site is somewhat non-random, or I should have gone to Vegas last Saturday. :)

In my test I only had 23% of any consecutive sequence of 6 rolls (95 sequences) end up with 4 13's or higher. That's a little above average, but not by much.

What can I say? Getting a ranger was not supposed to be easy, though I quolified on my first try, HERE. They ended up being 16, 16, 16, 13, 11, 10. Go ahead and use those, unless you were set on having a character with 3 17s. Now that's tough to get!
