D&D 4E Classless D&D 4e: A game designer's ramblings

Yes, as Darkwolf71 said, this is a bit of an overreaction to what I said in the other thread. That was speculation, which perhaps wasn't clear in my first post.

So, while it's sort of cool to have like 15 threads with my name on them on EN World  there's some overreaction going on.
Yes, sorry. I just thought "Ooh, scoop!" and got a bit carried away. Since there were a number of seemingly unrelated things you'd said, I thought I should make a different thread for each of them. That's all. My apologies. I should probably go outside now or something ...

Overreaction or not, it's already much easier to balance new classes using the rules presented in SWSE.
It'll probably be even easier in 4E. ;)

Yeah, a bit of an overreaction - but because it sounded like an intriguing idea. But in any case, even if it's speculation on your part, it's still possible that one can do that at some point - and that's an exciting idea.

Cheers, LT.

Because I have a long experience with classless character creation, I sure will make it a possibility come true.

The silly thing is that customizability isn't even really that big of a selling point for me. For one thing, I'm already sold (I've pre-ordered the core books and the first two adventures from amazon.com); for another, I doubt I'll do much customizing until after I've at least tried the RAW out.

I think I really just wanted to "get the scoop". :P Silly of me really. But I'm new here. I used to post a lot over on the official d&d boards but they've gone kinda dead since the announcement. This is where all the action is.

I hope I'm not coming across as a teenage fanboy or anything. For the record, I'm nearly 27. I'm also married with one child and another on the way. I've been playing d&d since the early 90s. Didn't play for some time in the early 00s and then got back into it with 3.5 almost two years ago. Didn't really like it from the start, but 4e is really shaping up to be everything I hoped it would be. Mearls and his cohorts have addressed just about every issue I have with the 3.5 rules and they're making changes to those things that I'm happy with, so there you go.

Anyway ...

Pukunui: I'm not bothered at all by enthusiasm. I just want to make sure that people who see the thread don't think that D&D is going classless or anything. It's important that people get an accurate picture of what we're doing.

That said, I think that 4e is going to be a lot of fun for gearheads. We've taken systematic, standardized approach to the underlying numbers and design. That sort of structure really pays off when you start bending, folding, and mutilating.

I never thought *I* would sound like many of the hardcore 4E fanboys around here (no offense to those who are), but the new quote/article from Mr. Mearls on the homepage REALLY hit home with me. This just sounds like excellent news to me.

hell...I'll even admit to actually being EXCITED for 4E to arrive. Quite funny considering that after the first couple weeks and info started trickling in, what I was hearing I absolutely *hated*

Hope it lives up to the hype :D
