Cleric Combo

One of the players in my group decided to try to make the ultimate cleric combo.

He's a Cleric5/Church Inquisitor 3/Contemplative 1/Divine Oracle2 of Tyr.

His wisdom score is 17, and he crafted himself a Periapt of Wisdom+7, raising the wisdom score to 24. As a prestige domain for the contemplative, he choose madness, giving him a +5 bonus to wisdom when determining bonus spells and DC to spells. He also chose the Spell Prodigy feat, giving him another +2 wisdom when determining bonus spells and DC. This gives him a DC bonus of +10. Even 1st level spells have a save DC of 21!

This is a little munchkin, I know, but we're playing City of the Spider Queen, and hearing it was quite difficult, I urged my players to be as munchkin as possible.

Any comments to this character?

What Kreynolds is trying to say is this.

The max nonepic (enhancment) bonus any ability adjusting item can have is a +6 (for epic it's +12 but you need to be 23rd level for that... I think).

Also Tyr's Domains are;

Good
Knowledge
Law
Retribution
War

...I may be wrong, but I don't think his character can pick Madness as a domain, as Tyr cannot grant it.

Actually, no. What I'm trying to say is this..

You let him craft an artifact!?! No _wonder_ you're having trouble!

Also, there is no such thing as a +7 periapt of wisdom. Ability score boosters only come in even numbers.

glass.

The way this character is built at max for this level his wisdom will be a 27

Level *1* 17 Base + 2 Spellcasting Prodigy = 19
Level *2* -
Level *3* -
Level *4* 19 + 1 level bonus = 20
Level *5* -
Level *6* -
Level *7* -
Level *8* 20 + 1 level bonus = 21
Level *9* 21 + 6 Periapt of Wisdom = 27
Level *10* -
Level *11* -

Which is only a +8 to his saves.

Remember that the baddies can use Dispel Magic (or antimagic field) to supress his Periapt of Wisdom, that will screw up his bonus spells & his save DC's... as well as all his Wisdom based skills.

If it's not too late he could/should do a rebuild picking a god that has the Madness domain. Effectivly boosting his wisdom to a 32 & his save DC bonus to a +11.

The Gods for the madness domain are;
Boccob **FR conversion = Azuth, Mystra, Savaras, Velsharoon
Erythnul **FR conversion = Cyric, Gargos, Malar
Vecna **FR conversion = Shar, Velsaroon

Otherwise his character is, as nail has said, just not possible.

Oh boy am I glad that I posted him... I wasn't quite aware of the fact that +7 was an artifact. Does it say so in the DMG? Epic-level handbook?

I was in doubt about the Tyr-Boccob conversion as well, I couldn't find any reference. FRCS? I was maybe a bit lenient on that part, since Boccob and Tyr shared the domain of Knowledge.

Where does it say that ability enhancers cannot come in odd numbers? If you have a score of 13 (+1), and wants a +2, why waste money on a +4 item (giving you 17), when you can buy a much cheaper +3 item (3*3*1000 = 9000 instead of 4*4*1000 = 16000). Unless it says somewhere that you cannot create +1 or +3 items, I don't see why it cannot be possible.

But he will of course have to be without the +7 item.. and he will have to change his god as well. The reason he chose Tyr was because he needed a Lawful Good church to be a Church Inquisitor.

Maybe I'll just switch to playing low-level campaigns again.. so much easier... :)

Thanks !
