Cleric contradiction

One step away isn't a problem, as different alignments may come from emphasizing different aspects of the diety. or approaching his goals in different ways.

A LG cleric of pelor might believe in an ordered hirerarchy that leeds people to the holy light of Pelor.

A CG cleric may believe that the holy light of Pelor is evident throughout the cosmos, and anyone who desires what is good and proper will be automatically drawn to Pelor.

Because the cleric's god can grant spells not normally on the list sometimes (thats what domains are for), I could see a good death god of a certain mythos possibly allowing animate dead, (Although I cant really think of a good justification why he would, I am sure that there are some loopy reasons why it could be.)

ALso, poison can be "good" if it is used in order that an enemy who would otherwise need to be killed could be temporarily incapacitated instead.

But that begs the question... is it the path or the goal that is what a god holds dear?

personally i think a god hold BOTH equally important. to use your example of Pelor

if Pelor is concerned that "anyone who desires what is good and proper" will be drawn to him how do explain allowing L NEUTRAL people to worship? If you break it down what you get it a very wishy-washy god.

Pelor.. god of Good (mostly, but he allows neutrals)?
Pelore.. god of Neutrality (mostly, but if your chaotic or lawful thats ok too)
So why, if Pelor allows those above would he NOT allow a CN to warship him? the guys following chaos, which is ok with pelor and he's following neautrality which is also ok with pelor.....

basically my demonstration shows that a god IS concerned with the path as much as the goal, and allowing cleric alignments to not match a god's is counter to that.

course, this is just my opinion.
