Can you take a domain twice? I would like to take a 1 level dip into cloistered cleric, and have the animal and knowledge domains as my other 2 domains (free knowledge from CC) I want to trade one of the knowledge domains into the knowledge devotion feat (without burning a feat), while still keeping the other knowledge domain for the granted power (ignoring spellcasting to make it easier for my DM to digest)

Having just re-read the cleric class, and also the tiny bit of text about domains in the PHB's chapter on magic, I think it's clear to me (as a DM) that the authors assumed a player would pick two different domains, but did not force it to be so. I mean, I see no language barring it. So unless someone came up with some previously unread text that clarifies, I'd be inclined to say that, sure, a player could select the same domain twice.

My initial thought was no, but looking at the domains it does not seem to exclude that possibility. As you said, maybe someone else will find some unread text that further clarifies.
In either case, I'd probably go over it with the DM and see what he says. If I were Bartman84's DM I would quite likely let you do this - especially if the fluff behind the character supported this choice well!
Ok, hopefully my DM sees it the same way. The camapaign is not starting for a little bit, so im gonna have to bide my time before I approach her about this concept, but i think it should be fine. I have 2 backups in mind as well, in case she disallows the 2 knowledge domains. one is the alternate domain list, and 2 is just take the feat (would rather not do this, but hey, it was how i originally built it)

Huh. That seems... odd. I suppose it's prolly more likely to make you underpowered than overpowered.
