Clerics and Lesser Deities

in 1e/2e iirc there was some rules for what kinds of spells gods could grant ...

Demigod- 5th lvl
lesser god - 6th lvl
intermediate/greater -7th

don't know how'd you do it in 3x

demigod -5th lvl

lesser -7th

intermediate - 8th

greater -9th

... but that'd cut off some staple spells for higher lvl characters. I would think about granting followers other abilities to make up for lack of spells.

something not as powerful (potentially) as spell progression, but something nice ... +1 to hit followers of x religion, or vs deities enemies ...etc.

but they'd still have the option of using metamagic'd spells (allowing the use of those higher lvl slots) and the unused slots (say a lvl 12 cleric of a demigod using her 6th lvl slots to take extra 5th or lower level spells).

I thought there was some mention in 3.0's Deities and Demigods of a deity's Divine Rank playing a role in the maximum cleric spell level it could grant to its clerics. Perhaps it's an "all or nothing," but I cannot remember.

I found no mention of the matter in the 3.5 update document for Deities and Demigods.

Does anyone have a copy of Deities and Demigods handy to confirm or deny?

Thanks,

I no longer own it but I think it mentioned something about number of domains a god could provide, but that there were divine abilities that would allow them to grant extra ones as well so it was still flexible.

This would also encourage clerics of lesser dieties to go into PrCs which don't grant full casting progression in return for flavorful god-specific powers. Though no longer being a full casting cleric will hurt a lot at higher levels compared to a normal cleric. If at 20th level you only cast as a 14th level cleric (say you spent 1 level on fighter to qualify for your PrC, and the 10 levels of PrC only granted 5 caster levels) you're a secondary caster at best. If you only have access to 5th level spells, you're barely a cleric at all, more like a paladin who happens to have more spell slots.
