Clerics and Weapons

So I think he'll own and carry such a weapon when out adventuring, as a tribute to his god, but will wear it more or less as a distraction, a ruse.

I'm sure his god finds it terribly amusing.

I was looking at clerics in a bit more depth and detail than I have in a while and discovered something odd.

The PHB says that clerics make it a point of pride to use their deity's favored weapon. Only those with the War domain, however, are listed as gaining proficiency in that weapon.

Am I reading that right, or did I miss something?

You're not missing anything. It's a feature, not a bug.

Of course Olidimmara would fully support his clerics using trickery, distraction and deception.

consider the domain power of the Luck domain: You can re-roll any dice, once per day. You have to accept the second roll.

Now consider t Cleric who likes to gamble. Presume that his Bluff, Spot and Sense Motive are all reasonably good. (That's as close to a Gaming skill as there is in D&D). What happens when the pot gets big?

Would the deity of rogues and tricksters object to one of his clerics using a shadow of the god's divine nature to cheat by re-rolling a bad outcome? (Note that this particular "cheat" can't be detected via any kind of Spot or magical perception. No flash on Detect Magic, just reality being momentarily favorable.

So bluff with a weapon or bluff at the gaming table, it's all good.

In the book of vile darkness there is a spell called Cheat that lets you reroll dice in a game of chance. It's not a cleric spell though and has the [evil] descriptor on it for some reason.

You could go the safe/boring route and take profession gambler as well.

There was a final fantasy rpg that had gambler as a trait. You just knocked off 10 to 20 percent of your income as gambling losses. I don't recall what it gave you in exchange.

As for your luck domain reroll while gambling, I'm pretty sure Olidammara is down with that. Any chance you can convince your group to let you enter Fate Spinner as a divine caster?
