Definitely a Death Knight, the Leveld6 fireball is a trademark of theirs. Tis also a supernatural ability so you can't counterspell it. (Interestingly a 20d6 fireball means he's a death knight with at least 20 levels since thats when it caps). Also resist elements won't help much half of it is unholy or divine damage.

Oh and he can heal himself between encounters, Death Knights have a 1d8+5 negative energy touch attack he can use on himself to heal. The touch attack also does 1 point of con damage for anyone who intends to disarm him and then fight him.

Either your DM is an absolute rat bastard or you aren't supposed to kill this guy yet (he's CR 22 at least) unless he has some way of boosting that fireball of doom of his.

Ya i get the impression that this guy will be around for a while ,and yes he is a complete rat bastard! "mmm its not enough of a challenge" as he is fond of saying, i was talking to someone else last night and we put him about cr 25 or there abouts. so we are up against it now, its not enough that theres a plague that affects spellcasters thats been created by an evil necromancer (who we have to kill) then he go's and puts in a death knight... oh well.
