The problem with using the BoAA as a method for rating CR is what are we actually learning in Huge CR missmatches like in the Abyss? It would be possible to have a creature 2 CR above its rating and have it still get stomped by a creature 5 CR higher than that.

What I am enjoying is playing through a wide vatiety of monsters, more than I use in a standard campaign. I have a strong urge to use planar dragons, and the overpowered storm elementals.

My list of creatures undervalued by CR are astral constructs, storm elementals, juggernauts, CC elderin - except that they still got stomped by the Juggernaut. Perhaps dragons, but PCs do better against them than single opponents do, this battle shows what might happen in dragons vs unprepared PCs.

Don't forget that CRs are not (and should not) be derived based on mano-e-mano combats. The primary objective for CRs is a standard 4-team against the beastie. I think that disclaimer is there somewhat in Evilhalfling's post, but it bears repeating.

BoAA is not general play. It is fun. We can learn a lot. But it doesn't *prove* anything about CRs. :) It may show us some that we should go back and look at in other contexts, though.

Wow - finally passed the LN arena by getting to CR16 opponents first.
Yippee.
I though it would be fun to be "in-front" for some reason...I think it's that Neutral is CR+9 right now that's taking the edge off. ;-)

Here's a proposed rule addition:

The rules already state that an alignment is defeated only when its general is defeated.

If a draw condition exists between a general and a non-general, the draw is recorded, but only the non-general is teleported away. The general remains in the arena until it is defeated.

If two generals are fighting in the arena, the draw condition is extended from 5 rounds to 10 rounds. If a draw still occurs, the two alignments will have to each submit a new general according to the submission rules outlined earlier in this thread. The process is repeated until a general is defeated.

Who else has the MM III? I can run the troll in the Abyssal Arena if needed, but I will wait a day to see if someone else will. I had run Batman the nycter, so I would prefer if someone else took the forest troll.
