D&D 5E C'mon August 2014

It's amazing to think that 14 years ago, we were waiting for 3rd edition to hit the gaming stores, devouring every piece of information from WotC on Eric's site. There was no facebook, twitter, instagram, blogger; there was only Eric Noah's Unofficial Third Edition News Site.

And now we read commentary on blogger sites, check out pictures of new products on instagram, get tidbits of info from twitter, and chat about 5e on facebook. And Google+.

Back then we took up a yell, a clarion call that trumpeted all across the internet, and it was associated with our good mod Henry. We said, "c'mon August!" So now I say it again: c'mon August!

I really can't wait.

Ah, the good ol' days...things are as different now to then as it was then compared to the when I started in the 1e days. But it's still D&D to me. :)

And amid all this craziness, our appetite for information has only grown, not been quenched. There are still those on the official forums claiming that Wizards isn't giving out enough information (not to disparage them, because my natural reaction is to agree and want more).

I think we of the Skynet era are quite spoiled.

I'm of two minds about that. On the one hand, the folks pronouncing judgement on WotC's PR from on-high is pretty cringeworthy at times. On the other hand, treating a game like a national defense secret feels weird to me. But I suspect the former causes the latter.
