CN vs. N: Chaotic Neutral Victorious!

Diplomacy with a beetle? Nope, that doesn't seem to be a good tactic.

Covered in glistening spikes, the fearsome fang dragon charges toward the beetle to 60N75E0Z and bites with all his strength. Hopefully the readied beetle will miss and then Fang can rip that glittery green carapace of its back and poop down his neck.

The beetle hits (rolled 13) because the dragon was intent on charging, not defense. Fang takes 4 points of damage, and has 18 HP left.
Fang hits (rolled 22+2=24 for charge) for 7 points of damage. The beetle resists the bite's horrible side effect (rolled 17 Fort save). The beetle has 23 HP left.

The beetle next attack (rolled 11) does not penetrate Fang's scales. Get him, Fang!

Fang will step right up into the beetle's face, "You want a piece of this, bub?" He unfurls his wings and bites and claws the (apparently tough as nails) beetle. It's an uphill battle, but Fang has a lot going for him.

OOC: Although Fang could conceivably go for a draw later, he won't. He can take this beetle down and he will fight to the (near) death, so time compression may be in order (at least from this end). Just don't forget the Trip and increased damage. :)

The beetle's AoO misses. Fang hits with bite for for 7, but beetle resists side effect. The beetle is at 16 HP. The beetle misses.

Fang misses. Beetle hits for 7. Fang is at 11 HP.

Both miss.

Fang hits with all three attacks (all 19's) for 13. The beetle is at 3 HP, and, amazingly, prone. The beetle gets up, Fang misses with AoO. The beetle hits for 4. Fang is at 7 HP.

Fang misses. The beetle hits for 4. Fang is at 3 HP.

Both miss.

Fang hits for 8. The beetle is at -5 and dying.

A huge centipede (and I mean huge) scurries into the arena to 60N85E and bites Fang for 12 points of damage. Fang is at -9 HP and dying.

Next for CN: a satyr without pipes (MM).

The CN crowd look towards General I2K, awaiting his reaction. The general takes a sip, nay a gulp, of his ale and then slowly raises his thumb. Unlike some theories of the early Roman empire, this gesture signifies that Fang did well. The crowd cheers mightily.

Even while the cheers continue, Pip the Pipeless moves gracefully into the arena to 90N0E on goat legs. Barechested, but not muscular, the chestnut-haired satry has a shortbow in hand and fires it upon the huge centipede. He then puts away the shortbow, knowing it will not play a further part in this battle.

OOC: What does Pip know about the centipede using his knowledge (nature)? I assume he knows enough to stay just out of reach of a first round attack (thus my positioning). Pip puts his dodge on the centipede obviously. The attempt of my positioning was to be greater than 80ft, but less than 120ft away from the centipede (only a -2 on attack roll). His plan is to drop the shortbow, draw his dagger and then attack until he drops (getting only one attack with a head butt the next round). With a few lucky rolls, he might actually survive. Knowing how tough this monster is to hit, it's probably not worthwhile to fight defensively.

Round 208

The satyr knows that all centipedes have vermin traits, darkvision, and a poison bite. He doesn't know anything more specific about this centipede, but can presume that it has a 10 foot reach based on its size.

The arrow hits for 6. The centipede has 27 hp left.

The centipede runs to 80N10E.

Round 209: Pip draws his dagger, steps to 95N5E, and attacks. He head butts for 2.

Centipede bites for 11-5=6 points of damage. Pip barely resists the poison. Pip has 16 hp left, centipede has 25 left.

Round 210: Both miss.

Round 211: Both miss.

Round 212: Pip head butts for 2, centipede bites for 3. Pip resists. Pip 13, centipede 23.

Round 213: Pip head butts for 4, centipede misses. Centipede has 19 hp left.

Round 214: Pip stabs for 1, centipede bites for 5. Pip resists. Pip 8, centipede 18.

Round 215: Pip head butts and crits with the dagger for 9 total! Centipede misses. Centipede has 9 hp left.

Round 216: Pip misses, centipede bites for 3. Pip resists the poison and has 5 hp left.

Round 217: Pip head butts for 3, centipede misses. Centipede has 6 hp left.

Round 218: Pip head butts for 6! Centipede misses and drops!

Pip has a chance to do something in round 219 before a new opponent appears.

The chuckling over this seeming mis-match, emanating from the LE gallery, is momentarily quieted when the dagger wielding cretin bests the big vermin. A deep voice rumbles "you all better have watched that; just like him, it behooves you not to give up...or the first thing you'll see when you wake up in the infirmary will be me."
Many, many, strong drinks are then ordered before the veneer of good humor is restored.

The crowd gives Pip a standing ovation! Cries of "Well done!" and "Kill it!" resound through the battlefield via the special aural transponders in the Shearing Pen.

With but a minor hand gesture of recognition, the bloodied satyr steps back, drops his dagger, draws out the shortbow and prepares to shoot the next contestant, fighting defensively. He grunts as the first round of poison courses through his veins again.

OOC: That was such a long combat that there's a good chance Pip will be affected by the second saving throws vs. the centipede's poison. To help you out, these would be rounds 219, 222, 224, and 226. I just don't think it's possible for Pip to make that many Fort saves.
