There is no AoO because Howie had total concealment from the fog. That is why the bat lowered five feet -- so it could see Howie.

Howie hits with claw and bite, critically with the claw (highest missing roll was 23; lowest hitting roll was 25) for 21 points of damage. Batty has 35 HP remaining, and Howie got the crit he wanted.

Round 460: Batty bites back, bestowing 19 points of damage, and then 5-foot steps up to 40N55E10Z. Howie has 2 HP remaining.

Howie must have confused Batty for someone with blindsight. This, of course, means that Sandy never got killed because she would not have provoked an AoO either once she withdrew from being only 5ft away.

Howie, now realizing that the bat can't in fact see him better than he can see the bat, will fly out to the east, gaining 20ft of altitude, do a wingover and then fly back attacking Batty from slightly above (diving at the last second), to 45N70E15Z, heading west. Since Howie's crit wish came true, he'll now wish that Batty's subsequent bite will miss due to the concealment, if either are even in the cloud this far out to the side (are the clouds spherical?).

The clouds have a radius of twenty feet, radiating from a point on the ground, and are uniformly twenty feet high. I am sorry about Sandy. The replay official messed up on that one. The clouds are centered at 60N65E and 85N95E.

Howie contemplates trying to last another 12 seconds to regain the breath weapon, but instead decides to go out in a final big bang. He'll take a full round of attacks with his claws, wings, and teeth on Batty and then plummet to his very likely death.

Round 462: Batty comes down to 45N70E5Z and tries to bite Howie to make sure he is dead, but misses (natural 1).

Next in round 463 for Chaotic Neutral is a quaraphon (MM III). If it enters at 0N0E, it can just see Batty, who is sticking out of the cloud at 45N80E and 50N80E.

Thanks, ugulu, I appreciate it. I have the MMII as well, but I'd rather someone else run the bat as I'd rather put a bullet in its head than have it keep kicking the crap outta my dragons.

Another side note, the replay official is still missing, but the elf was walking past a janitorial closet of the Shearing Pen and heard strange, muffled voices from inside. He heard what sounded like, "Please, God, no! Not that!" before he quickly moved on -- thinking it was not his place to interfere in the fun and games of others.
