Dala Speaks

With a nod to the cloaked woman, Dala begins speaking to the crowd.

"I fear my patron has misjudged our guests' patience; I will save the details and such for my memoirs. Let us then thrust forward to what was discovered, where they were discovered, and how that impacts us all.

The elfish noble seems relieved at these statements, most others are rapt and do not look to their seats as they sit. This gives a perfect chance for those standing around columns to see each other.

Eight columns stand in two rows, each column equidistant from the other, giving a space of about six of the large five foot tiles betwixt them. Unembelished, they are stark against the opulence of the room and feel out of place. The torches seem to dull slightly, being less exuberant, as if they wanted to hear, too.

What you'd classify as adventurers ring other columns. Some, whispering amongst themselves; others, ignoring each other.

Deep in the Xen'drix jungle, further in than many would say we should go, we followed a large Siberys shower down to a large valley, hidden by its own tree-line canopy. Within lay an edifice of nearly undescribable proportions, and beneath its now shattered arched ceiling lay, which I can only describe as:

a Rifte in Light, a Void in Air.

She pauses to let the crowd absorb her words.

K(arcana): 16 Link: http://www14.brinkster.com/nadaka/DiceBoxDB.asp?Page=Find&By=Number&Value=6152 - You have heard of MetaMagics, wherein a mage uses more of his or her total power to generate effects that require less components. You're not sure what kind of spells can be affected, necessarily, but the cloaked woman appears to be standing stock still, in intense concentration.

Spot: 19 Link: http://www14.brinkster.com/nadaka/DiceBoxDB.asp?Page=Find&By=Number&Value=6153 - You can make out as much detail as you want on any of the parties in the room. What kind of information are you looking for, in general?

Aalin barely has time to consider what it means that this elf - a complete stranger - has offered his help to her. She shakes the slight uneasiness she feels and listens to the sorceress as proceedings at last get underway.

"...items of great power..."

At these words, Aalin leans forward in anticipation, her lips slightly parted. She is reminded, briefly, of that first moment of understanding, the day so many years ago when the world seemed to crack open before her, revealing the true shape of things.

But she quickly banishes all thoughts of the past - her epiphany in the blacksmith shop - and refocuses on the cloaked spellcaster. The young scholar speaks eloquently and Aalin absorbs it all, but keeps her eyes on the other woman, who is working some magic that she can't quite identify.

{OOC} Aalin will keep her attention on the spellcaster and any magical effects she creates, not only to see what might be coming but also because Aalin is always intrigued by magic and eager to learn more. So, once again, Knowledge (arcana) checks as necessary. Also, I probably should have asked, but at the time I was having problems with the website and missed my chance...I have here assumed that Aalin has a fair understanding of Velious' actions (i.e., that he cast a spell on her). Let me know if this is not true. {/OOC}

{OOC}Ebeneezer isn't looking for anything in particular unless its anything that appears threatening. He's making mental notes of the details of the other adventurers in particular, and trying to notice if any of them seem to be working together and familiar with each other, or if they have been randomly paired as we have. He's also particularly on the lookout for anything "official" about what's going on, anything at all to explain the seperation of the adventurers from the others, and any other attendents, guards or servitors of any kind the speaker may have in the room.{/OOC}

Calach, potentially misguided in a horrible way, breathes in sharply. The rift and void reminded him of the way everything else in the world seemed to dim and blur in his vision of the chalice, how things tended to distort and disappear in the presence of its light and holiness. The Siberys shower was perfectly understandable, too — the heavens falling to identify the resting place of the sacred cup. The meaning of the words were clear. His destiny and objectives had been decided.

She Continues

This rifte greeted us with Invisible, yet Radiant waves of Palpable Fear and Humility; for moments cum eons we Languished, and if it weren't for Providence, we would be starved husks there now. What we are involving everyone in is dangerous; dangerous enough that you're surely thinking that the reward need to justify it. What is borne forth from the Void is revolutionary, in itself it could be bigger than elemental binding. What is bears forth is this ...

She steps to the side and the cloaked lady takes her place.

{OOC}I hate to bring metagaming into this, but I don't want to railroad this next part. You all have two full rounds to act before something happens. Treat it as everyone getting there own version of a precognitive insight, a spidey-sense kinda thing. Velious, you can make a passive search check for me as well, everyone else spots and listens. Aalin, you can 'keep' Velious' blessing for an arcana check if you'd like.{/OOC}

'eezer -
Most adventures have perked their heads up at this point; most of the nobles have 'heard better tales than this' and consider the words pomp or fiction. They await the bait, or the catch to all this. An up-until-now bored-looking dwarf has gotten up and begun speaking with a group near to him. The group includes a small halfling-sized warforged, a clean, well-dressed (for and adventurer) male goblin, and a female half-elf in an exquisite silvered breast-plate.

Ebeneezer takes a sharp breath as some latent sixth sense seems to grip him... something is about to happen.

He sidles slowly around the piller, putting it between himself and the speakers, although he's still keeping an eye and an ear on the proceedings. Other than that, his glance is darting back and forth through the room, craning for any sign of what could have caused this visceral and primal reaction. His hand creeps to the hilt of his sword, although he does not yet draw it. His breath speeds up, as he gets ready to shift if needed, at a moment's notice.

Calach, slightly uneasy at the shift in mood that runs through the room, puts his hand on his sword's pommel, but doesn't unsheathe it. He studies the speaker, hoping to get some sort of sense of her intentions.

Then, he waits...he can feel that something is about to happen, but he has little sense of what that might be.

{OOC}Sense Motive check at +8 in the first round, then he delays until after whatever happens happens.{/OOC}

Velious was already nervous when the doors were pulled shut. The young scholar's words make him more so. Sometimes I forget the incredible audacity of humans. My people have marked well that there are...certain dark things not meant for mortal minds. I fear this foolish young scholar and her friends are meddling with things they do not understand.

Suddenly, a terrifying thought strikes Velious. Or do they? His eyes flicker to the corners of the room nervously searching for an exit. Could this possibly be...a test? If they did bring some horror back from forsaken Xen'drik, are they intending to see exactly what happens when they expose a roomful of test subjects to it?

Velious takes a deep breath. Concentrate. Perhaps I am too nervous. Perhaps I am being paranoid. He takes a careful look around the room, scanning for clues, hoping to prove his terrible suspicions incorrect.

{OOC}Search check would be +4. Velious will look specifically at the assistants that are helping out. Are they doing any sort of thing to protect themselves (averting their eyes, covering their ears, moving to a safe position)? If Velious sees anything that makes him more suspicious, he will try to disrupt the proceedings by interrupting with a question.{/OOC}
