CoC Spells in d20 Modern

Okay, so I've been continuously working on my WWII d20 modern game, and I know one of the PCs is going to be a professor who was specially assigned to this group for their investigation into the happenings, yadda yadda, but to make a long story short, once they find out that the occultist will be allowed to them, the professor will end up being one. Okay, so I want to start giving him scrolls as early as the first adventure even though they won't be able to use them yet, but it makes it more probable for later. Now, here is my problem. I don't see the Karotechia researching magic missile scrolls, but I see them more ray of fatigue, wierd devil pact for super aryan race stuff... so I thought of cthulhu. I flipped through the book and saw some spells that I really liked and would put in the game, even though some are very powerful (like unspoken oath I think it is). I was wondering if anyone had assigned "spell levels" to the Cthulu spells? Do you think it is a good idea to incorporate CoC spells into d20 Modern? Let me here what you think...

Absolutely. My once a month Modern game is the same way. While all the spells listed in the Modern book are out there, I thought it would be more fun to make magic dangerous. So I incorporated CoC and BoVD spells right away. The spells they have found have been mostly utility, with some true evil right alongside for power. I did this to give them a moral choice. I'll be nice next time, with more normal spells, but this time I wanted to make a point. The Shadow is just that, and since magic comes from it in part, it has been affected by that darkness.

I'm using Coc magic for D20 Modern and it works great. By great I mean the pcs are hesitant to use it. They are hesitant to use it because 1. I changed the names of all the spells so they can't easily read about them. 2. Describe the components and rituals and a vague notion of what it does. Experience is the best teacher, of course sometime the experience is horrid 3. The temporary or permanent ability damage is more intimidating than ,"oh shucky darn! I've run out of spell slots. I better sleep for 8 hours."

The magic in Coc is powerful. It can really unbalance a scenario quickly. I kept it powerful, but reduced the amount of knowledge the pcs have to prevent them taking it for granted.

Assuming you have Cthulhu d20, take a look at pp. 286-287, "Lovecraft in D&D". It gives the level equivalents for spells, along with domains and the like- the section is hidden right before the stats on Mythos dieties. It won't correspond exactly to d20 Modern, but it should give you a pretty good idea.

Also, remember the PHB, or even try Magic of Faerun from FRCS. They both have lots of great spells, and Magic of Faerun has some stuff along the lines of what you're talking about. Just tweak the levels if needed, and voila! Instant new magic for Modern! I use all sorts of D&D stuff, looked at carefully, in Modern. With some preparation, D&D can be a great source for Modern.
