Wait- in this system, if I try to cut your face with a dagger and miss, I hit something else? And if nothing else, the floor? I never just cut empty air??

:\ Makes no sense to me. I think you need to back off the 'every hit' part, personally.

Eh, thanks to hardness the dagger will so rarely be able to damage anything interesting I wouldn't even bother thinking about it. Now, if you were slashing at someone who was standing right in front of an expensive tapestry, now that's interesting.
 

I really like this Dramatic idea. The making it require a failure of touch AC is a great idea. And yes parrying is consider part of the base 10 AC but you can still deflect a weapon into something. Possibly delibrately so it get's tangled up:D Course that's just DM call but this system helps.
