College Woes

For your gaming group woes I would suggest looking for a Games Club on campus. I found one in my university days and it really helped make a lot of friends quickly (many of whom I still game with 15 years laters!). I can guarentee there are going to be D&D players at your college so if there isn't a club already set up - look into making one yourself!

Agreed. When I went off to college, I discovered there was a gaming club...but when I went, I discovered that they were pretty unfriendly, and mostly into wargaming (which I wasn't). So, I put up a sign on the bulletin board of my dorm, by the mailboxes: "Looking for D&D players".

Found 4 guys within two days, and got several more players through various other means within a few months. These folks turned out to be my best friends through college, and beyond...I'm still in touch with many of them, 23 years later (gawd, where did the time go?)

Hehe Frehsman 15...I dont think I have to worry too much as I think where I will be staying doesnt even have a Cafeteria so I will have to go to other buildings to eat.

Don't get too cocky!

When I went to Trinity University my freshman year, they were renovating all of the dining halls, so only one was open, and it had limited hours. If you didn't get there on time, you either had to leave campus, eat something from your dorm stash, or wait until the next day.

And still people put on weight.

Reasons included:

1) a more sedentary lifestyle- you tend to mix eating & studying a lot more, and there is no parental unit around to tell you to put away the bag of chips, or not to have those cookies before dinner, etc.

2) increased access to alcohol- legal or not. Alcohol is a HIGH CALORIE food.

3) eating sociably becomes an even more important part of your social life than ever before.

WHAT!?! No Doritios before dinner?!?!

No wonder I never went to college. Phooey.

And no, I'm "slim and trim" - see the avatar? :D

Honestly, I do number one when I was at home during highschool, my parents never told me to not eat something. Oh, and my house is usually filled with all kinds of unhealthy junk, but I usually know when not to eat. I dont drink, and never have any plans of doing so in my life. So I think I am good. :)

Granted right now I could stand to lose 15 pounds haha. :)

Didn't I see somewhere that you were 18?

Do you have any community college behind you? You might want to consider the money savings in using a community college.

If I am incorrect or out of line then my apologies. I have been going to community colleges off and on for about twenty years and know that there is a huge difference in HS life and college, and I know that university is a step higher then CC. Its a large step, you just might want to consider.

I went for a semester to a CC near me. I liked it, but I am mainly going to a University because everything has already been taken care of at this point in time and due to schedule reasons at the CC. You see, I cant drive, so I had to have a ride to go to and from the CC, and I was lucky to be able to get the schedule I got for my classes there. I only went two days a week, but I was there from 7:00 to 4:00. Four classes a day. I got three A's and a B there. :)

Basically I am going to a University because I do want to go on some level, as I will never know if I enjoy it if I do not try. :)

EDIT: I am also afraid that if I do not leave soon, then I may just never leave at all. So, I am sort of spreading my wings so to speak. :)

I have experienced homesickness before, both in college and in a foreign country. It is inevitable and there's no way to avoid it. You can, however, shorten it's duration. Get out of your dorm and explore the area. See the sights, join activities and yes, make new friends. The more time you spend running around, the quicker you'll get over your yearnings for home.

Fly, little bird, but remember the lesson of Icarus!

Ummm, attach your wings with a better adhesive?

Oh wait, don't fly too close to the sun. I get it, I think...
