The best way to combat burnout is to game with busy people. When you can only get together to play once or twice a month, you really look forward to it.

If it is trying to come up with good stuff to challenge the players that you are having trouble with, then just make everything up on the fly. Just tale whatever comes to mind and make something with it. You stuck while DMing a game and do not know what to do next and the PCs are twiddling their thumbs? Just think of something random, like say a...water bottle. Then say that your PCs see what tons of large class objects that apear to have a water substance in them fall from the sky. This will get them to do something and they will often give you ideas of what to do next just by their reactions. :)

Maybe a group of Elves was flying overhead on magical mounts when they began to drop their supply of magical water that can sustian a person for a week.

Just some up with random stuff. :D

I have an infallible method:

1. Stop prepping campaigns altogether, and don't even look at your gaming material until the end of step 3. Play some board games with the people you game with if they're itching to game.

2. Have some social contact outside of your gaming group (you can have non-gamer friends over for boardgames, too!)

3. Watch 5 movies and read 5 books outside of the genre you normally roleplay in.

You will find yourself itching to run a game.

KM & Rycanda have a good point.

Sometimes what you really need is a good movie.

A couple of years ago, the group was in a bit of a rut, so we had movie night 2 sessions in a row.

Week #1: Kentucky Fried Movie.

Week #2: Blazing Saddles.

We were going to watch Young Frankenstein, but by then, everyone was itching to game again.

I have to say that variety is the spice of life, and repetition and pressure tends to lead to burnout.

So, to avoid burnout, play differnt games. Run some, play some. Go for different genres, and radically different playstyles. Do htings other than gaming, even, if you like. What you really need to do is rest those parts of you that are getting tired, however is best for you.
