Comic Books To Go Digital Just Like Di

Months ago there were articals about having comicbooks availiable on the net to read. Several major companies were considering opening a "library" that one could buy a pass to read certain books each month. These would be a mix of old anf new.

The newest Wizard magazine has an article about how comicbooks may go strictly digital (just like Dungeon and Dragons magazines).

Costs have sky rocketed. Last fall they were 2.99 each for a basic book which was tough to do but now go for 3.99.

How much longer until there is no printed material of any sort? Will it all be digital?

Oh HELL NO!

I think you can find quite a few digital webcomics out there but they haven't really been successful. Print is still the way to go.

It depends on the web comic, really. I know of a few web comic creators that are able to live on their earnings, I think but most of them need a second job. Of course, a lot of the sucessful web comic artists get money by selling book compilations of their work. *looks over at the Sluggy book on her shelf*

Besides the outright piracy of comics via torrent sites, comics are having problems because of the trade compilations. A LOT of people wait until the trades show up, rather then collect the individual issues. This makes it hard for them to judge, at times, how well a series is actually doing. Then, there are the rising prices of comics, which makes the trade collection even MORE of a good thing.

Digital comics

What will this do to the value of my late husband's massive collection of silver age comics? Should I have sold them already?

Yes ... I know many people who still prefer to hold the comic (or book) in their hands while reading it. I don't think everything will go digital ... at least no time soon.

I AM curious if it will increase the price on old comics, though. Can easily imagine if it does.

I am guilty of the TPB thing. But that was even before they became very common. Nothing like reading Byrne X-men while eating Cheetos and having no guilt for it.

too many varibles to give a good answer. I tend to think it will increase the price for a while but eventually the novelity of it with kids brought up on web books only will drive the prices down.

Depends on book, characters, company, condition etc etc etc.....

They will increase in value. Print comics will stay a tiny expensive niche market and the old ones willl retain value becasue they are genuine antiques and not just compulsively collected to increase value.
