Comic readin...

Man, I totally forgot about "Rising Stars". I like reading that book too. A friend of mine lent me his graphic novel compilations. The one thing I do hate about the book, .........is the horrible artwork. I mean come on, you're an editor, you got a great well known writer to do a series for you, who do you get to draw for him? You'd want to get the best you could right? I guess not at Top Cow.

I'm quite enjoying Sojourn. It isnt original by any stretch, but I am enjoying it. Same with the Kenzerco D&D comics.

I do read a fair amount of other comics...like the 2 JMS Top Cow titles (Rising Stars & Midnight Nation); Buffy & Angel; plus a few 'humour' titles like KOTD, Nodwick, PvP and the like.

Hey, how is that KenzerCo D&D book? Man, is that book hard to find.

Actually, you know what . . . . now that I've thought about it, the reason why I don't like "Sojourn", isn't just because its not original. I think that's minor. I think most of it has to do with the art. Maybe if someone else was drawing it I would like it. The art IS fantastic. The penciller is a good artist. But the style bugs me a little.

Little me explain, (and this kind of goes with most CrossGen books): Its like this company makes an effort to provide the comic book reading market with an alternative to the usual "super-hero" stuff, but the art still looks like super heroes. Yeah the world of "Sojourn" isn't tights and capes, but it still looks like a super hero book. The costumes still look really cartoony, clean, bright, form fitting. Heroes got perfect salon hair. I just don't feel like I've escaped super hero books when I go to "Sojourn".

Its a good book though, don't get me wrong. Most of my gripes is just personal tastes. Taking away my tastes and breaking down the book, its solid. Just not my cup of tea.

That's my only real complaint with too. After twelve issues I couldn't tell the difference between Poet and Ravenshadow, and I'm not sure if could even now.

If your friend has the Powers "Who killed Retro Girl" TPB borrow that too.

I have been collecting comic books since sophomore year in high school, which means that I've spent more years on this Earth as a comic book collector than not. I currently read the following:

Amazing Spider-Man
Avengers
Batman: Gotham Adventures
Batman: Legends of the Dark Knight
Catwoman
Dark Knight Strikes Back
Fantastic Four
Incredible Hulk
Invincible Iron Man
John Constantine: Hellblazer
Knights of the Dinner Table: Bundle of Trouble (compilations)
Knights of the Dinner Table: Tales from the Vault (compilations)
New X-Men
Peter Parker, Spider-Man
Punisher
Thunderbolts
Uncanny X-Men
Wolverine
X-Treme X-Men

I kind of fell into the Marvel Universe by accident and never managed to get back out. Still, no regrets; it's provided me with ample entertainment value over the years.

I think some of my all-time favorites have been the Alan Moore run of Saga of the Swamp Thing, Kurt Busiek's Astro City (I even had two letters published in their letters page: I was the guy who deciphered the alien language used by the shapeshifter race), and Walt Simonson's run on the Mighty Thor.

I think its really turned around since Brent Anderson took over. But then I've always been a fan of his, since Astro City (probably my fave series) at least.

I don't read as much as I would like to since the local newstand sucks (they stop stocking comics during the summer). I was reading Batman: Gotham Adventures & Harley Quinn on a regular basis. When I get to a comic shop every three months then I pick Batman, Detective, Green Arrow, JLA, JSA, Catwoman, Superman & whatever may catch my eye. I'm more of a fan of DC Comics than I am of Marvel or independents.

Has anyone picked up Joss Whedon's "Fray"?

I'm waiting for it to be released in Trade, but I'm wondering if it's worth it.

Ok you have a point there. I think it also started out alright, but then they changed artists a few times, some of who weren't so good, and my over all opinion of the art has ended up kind of low.

I missed this originally and have been awaiting the inevitable trade as well. I believe it was good (from what I read about it), it sold well regardless.

I got hooked on Daredevil back in '89 and expanded from there. I'm an addict now, my list is too loong to itemise off the top of my head. It is basically every Crossgen book, almost every Marvel book9 i can't help it, i love the marvel u), a few Image books (Universe kicks butt!), and a few DC/Vertigo books.

I hate to say it but, i spend more time and money on comics then i do on any of my other hobbies. Including RPG's. GASP!:D

Does anyone know what issue JMS started his AMS run on? I'm interested in actually starting up my Spiderman collection after many, many years of neglect (and a flood that destroyed about 50% of my collection :( ). Also what else has JMS been doing in the comic industry? Does he write any Babylon 5 comics?

Thanks (and if these have been asked and answered before I apologize).
