Comic readin...

Does anyone know what issue JMS started his AMS run on? I'm interested in actually starting up my Spiderman collection after many, many years of neglect (and a flood that destroyed about 50% of my collection :( ). Also what else has JMS been doing in the comic industry? Does he write any Babylon 5 comics?

Thanks (and if these have been asked and answered before I apologize).
JMS started his run on ASM with #30 or #31. He has also written Rising Stars and one other limited series whose name I can't recall at the moment. Some of the JMS ASM issues can be read online at the Marvel website (up to #36 last time I checked).

I don't think he has written any B5 comics personally, though others have based on outlines by JMS.

Yeah, #30 was the first issue. As for the other miniseries, it is Midnight Nation which is up to its second last issue (#11).

As for Babylon 5 comics, he has written some of the old DC series, and he was talking awhile ago about doing a B5 graphic novel - of course who knows what will happen with that now that he's signed that exclusive deal with Marvel.

Thanks for the info. I'll have to stop by my FLGS (whixh also happens to be my FLCS) and see if they have some of those issues.

One more question are the Rising Stars and Midnight Nation comics Spiderman series as well or are they his own characters/other Marvel characters?

Thanks for your help.

Nope. Rising Stars and Midnight nation are standalone series published by Top Cow, with Rising Stars being 24 issues (of which #18 is the current issue) and Midnight Nation is 12 issues.

Both Rising Stars and Midnight Nation are published by Top Cow and are not part of the Marvel Universe. I believe all the characters were created by JMS.

BTW: if you can find the issues i HIGHLY recommend you pick up Midnight Nation, it very well written and has excellant art by Gary Frank. On the subject of JMS's spider-man run, the bad news is he's leaving Amazing in a few months, the good news is Kevin Smith is taking over and JMS is launching a brand new Spider-man book. Since both writers now have exclusive contracts with Marvel, i think we can all look forward to some good stuff in the coming months.

Or you can just wait until the inevitable TPB is released later in the year. The last issue should be out within the month so it shouldn't be long and there may even be bonus pages!

comics

Man,
I can't believe nobody mentioned Usagi Yojimbo. Best damn book out there! Stan Sakai is the Man.
Hellboy is another fave.
I mostly read TPBs these days, so from these I've really enjoyed:
Powers
Ultimate Spiderman (hated Ultimate Xmen)
New Xmen (talk about messed up - in a good way)
Big yawn in regards to most everything coming out of Dc and Crossgen these days.
I'm a big fan of David Mack and his Kabuki book. I like Daredevil ok, but I like creator owned, do the writing and art themselves stuff more.
Got bored of Rising Stars and Midnight Nation.
Oh, yah. Akiko by Mark Crilley is a great all ages book. My six year old daughter loves it.

Hmm...I really have trouble getting into the Ultimate line, I much prefer the originals withntheir detailed histories.

I have to admit I havent read much DC lately, aside from some TPB (I recent got Huntress - Cry for Blood which was great) and JLA (and I'm starting to waver a little on JLA). I've heard good things about JSA, but havent tried it as yet.

Not that I read much of Marvel either (only ASM and Avengers).

As for Crossgen, I'm loving RUSE and still quite enjoying Sojourn and the Path (so far). The costs of comics has kept me away from the others.

Got bored of Rising Stars and Midnight Nation.

Really? the only major complaints I have is some of the delays between issues.

I don't really follow titles as such, do on the other hand follow authors, like for instance, anything written by...

Warren Ellis
Grant Morrison
Garth Ennis
Mark Millar
Frank Miller
JMS
Alan Moore
Brian Micheal Bendis
Neil Gaiman

and some other blokes whose's name I cannot recall.

And I only read TPBs, reading single issues is like reading just one chapter in a book every month *shiver*.

Thank gawd for the library, or I'd never be able to read all those titles.
