So, is there a deeper premise in there somewhere? Having a female President just because seems like just a gimmick designed to make the show feel different.
I've always felt (since I first heard they were going to make this show) that it was a "get the audience used to the idea of President Hillary Clinton" propaganda piece.

There's a big difference between having five or ten different "cop shows" and having multiple shows about the White House. A cop show is a generic thing, that you can take in any number of directions - a show about the President of the US is, by definition, a lot more specific.
Other than the location (Washington, DC), there's no reason it is any more specific than a cop show. Cop shows all deal with the same situations, just with different iterations and different ways of handling it.

The Shield and CSI: Miami both deal with a crime of the week, typically, and what makes the one brilliant and the other crap is what they choose to focus on (although both spend a lot of time on the non-crime elements, notably) and how they present it.

It would be easy to imagine a presidential show like The Shield with a corrupt/self-deluded chief executive. And there are those of us who already see way too many parallels between the West Wing and CSI: Miami. ;)

Since they're promising a Democratic villain in the immediate future, I think it's probably a good third party propaganda piece more than anything else.

Or, maybe, just maybe, it's pure entertainment and not a sekrit political brainwashing tool.

I remember thinking the same thing about the X-Files, only in terms of the existence of aliens.

I liked it. I'm going to give it 5 episodes to see if it gets better, but I think it has premise. I liked how she brought the foreign ambassador into the room with the military and explained exactly what would happen if the imprisoned woman was not released immediately. It gave the character some credibility.

Yes, things normally known as "acts of war". Just a crowning element of the silliness of the show.

Which is why they brought in hordes of liberal and democratic consultants to coordinate the promotion of the show.

Thats definately what this is, an idealized hillary clinton show. Unfortuantely, its not as good as the preexisting idealized BILL Clinton show.

The woman in Nigeria thing was weird and unrealaistic. Is she planning on having some sort of crusade? Beucase thats the logical result of the idea that all countries who impose islamic law need to get blown up.

The ads for it made it seem like the first show was going to be all about folks freaking that a woman became president. How is that even possible? I mean, we have a black female secretary of state, and most of us lived through Maggie Thatcher running the UK. There are lots of women in Congress. How realistic is it that folks would freak out over her gender? That strikes me as a stupid Hollywood view of Washington.

This isn't the first show to feature a female president. I seem to recall a show back in the 80's with a lady president, I think the show was mostly to follow how her husband and what he did.

And its not like there has never been female leaders, Margaret Thatcher comes to mind. India and the Philippines have had ladies in charge to. And through out history there have been a few to.

I may not have have the same politcal views as the show potrays but the idea of female president is not something alien to me.

At first I cringed at Geena as the president, but the show turned up ok. The nigeria part was silly. No woman president would as stupid as to start her reign with such an obvious pro-woman action. That would just needlessly paint her whole run in the office in a certain way ..

Oh, and it was just too silly to warn the nigerians in advance. They could've just hidden the woman. If you cant find Laden, you cant find one person when the whole country is in on it.

Or just had her killed before the American military arrived. I know they were trying to show her as tough, but wanting to use non-violent options, but that was just silly.

Oh, and I'm worried about the family angle, the angst-ridden daughter and the young republican son - that could get annoying if they spend too much time on it.
